De ringelrups (Malacosoma neustria) was in de jaren 80 nog de huismus onder de nachtvlinders: letterlijk in elke tuin te vinden. Aantallen zijn sterk afgenomen verspreiding vooral beperkt tot de duinen noord Nederland. Vergelijking met huismus houdt stand. #SectieBink #Entomologie #ElkeDagEenInsect

De berkenwintervlinder (Operophtera fagata) vliegt vooral in november. De rups leeft op berk en beuk en herken je aan zwarte echte poten, een donkere kop en een minder groene kleur vergeleken met rupsen van de kleine wintervlinder. #SectieBink #ElkeDagEenRups #ElkeDagEenInsect #InsectenWeetje

dlvr.itDe tuin hoeft niet winterklaar: wees zoals Bob en volg deze tips op In de herfst begint voor veel tuinbezitters de opruimdrift. We blazen massaal het stof van het tuingereedschap. Koortsachtig richten we ons op het verwijderen van blad en dode plantendelen. Voor veel dieren is een opgeruimde tuin juist een plek met minder voedsel en overwinteringsruimte. Wat kun je nu het beste laten staan en waar is een kleine ingreep wel gewenst?

Veel rupsen gaan nu verpoppen of zijn inmiddels verpopt. Ook deze rups van de pauwoog pijlstaart. De pop gaat in de winterrust om in het voorjaar als vlinder tevoorschijn te komen. #ElkeDagEenInsekt #SectieBink #ElkeDagEenRups #Entomologie

Liggend walstro (Galium saxatile) is cruciaal voor veel Veluwse rupsen, maar verdort ’s zomers razendsnel. De vroege walstrospanner (Colostygia multistrigaria) ontsnapt: vóór de droogte is hij al verpopt. #SectieBink #Entomologie #ElkeDagEenInsect #ElkeDagEenRups #InsectenWeetje

Het karmozijnrood weeskind (Catocala sponsa) was vooral een Veluwesoort en veroverde tussen 2015 en 2020 heel Nederland, werd toen in hoge aantallen gezien. Aantallen nemen weer af. De rupsen leven op eik. #SectieBink #Entomologie #ElkeDagEenInsect #ElkeDagEenRups #InsectenWeetje

Diatomeeënaarde lijkt een onschuldig product, zoals het hier wordt uitgelegd. Echter, het is net als gif dodelijk voor alle insecten en waarschijnlijk ook voor veel andere dieren zoals weekdieren. Alles wat buiten zo’n nest terechtkomt is dus een gevaar voor ander leven.

Scholen kunnen pakketjes met eitjes, rupsen en poppen van het groot koolwitje bestellen. In de klas volgen de kinderen dan de bijzondere gedaanteverwisseling. Deze praktische manier van het leren over de levenscyclus van vlinders heeft al heel veel schoolkinderen bereikt en geïnspireerd.
