A high-turnout election! Bradford got more votes losing than all but 2 winners in Toronto's post-1997 history, and both those cases were incumbents running against relatively weaker challengers. Olivia Chow, of course, won *even more* making her the most vote-getting politician in Canadian history.

Made for the 1873 Vienna World Exposition, Japan's first world's fair as a nation: an o-daiko drum covered in cloisonné by enameller Hayashi Kodenji. The rooster on top stands for peace. In an old story, a village alarm drum went unused so long that chickens moved in. #Meiji

My son was suspended from school for giving another student a "pigjob" and now we're all sitting around the empty dinner table as a family with our palms flat on the surface staring at nothing in particular in silence. It is understood none of us will ever ask what the word means.

Our First Nations traditional territory maps are progressing. We're likely a week away from completing our alpha build. This will replace the Native-Land.ca territory maps, which went offline earlier this year (though they have other maps still online). It'll go online at knowledgekeepr.com

One of my thoughts about the premier-elect's victory speech last night is that it's Vancouver and the South Island that keep the lights on, pay for the roads, hospitals in the rest of the province. Not the other way around. #bcpoli

My first thought this morning? Victoria and Vancouver will need to work together to counter the cuts and setbacks that are coming. Harm reduction, non-market housing finance, housing density, etc, are all on the chopping block. @seanorr.bsky.social @lucymaloney.bsky.social Let’s hold the line.

While waiting for the election results last night, watched Barry Lyndon with my younger son. Besides the painterly compositions, it is such a funny movie...

"Barry's father had been bred, like many other young sons of a genteel family, to the profession of the law. And there is no doubt he would've made an eminent figure in his profession had he not been killed in a duel, which arose over the purchase of some horses."

I found this film to be unwatchable.

There are more baleen whales in local waters here. Humpbacks, seis, minkes. And occasional fin and blue.

Social media loves talking about how everything is getting worse. But what’s something that you’ve seen get _better_ in your lifetime?

The municipal elections in Greater Victoria saw this. > This is exacerbated further by the collapse of local media; a 2025 poll found that more than half of voters in communities without local news outlets couldn’t find trusted information about their candidates. Instead, they have social media,

TikTok continues to allow videos that turn white supremacist massacres into virtual reality. A GPAHE investigation found users recreating recent massacres through BONELAB, while sharing extremist symbols and weapons, exposing serious failures in TikTok’s enforcement of its own content policies.
