English food is very influential without us even thinking about it: Pub food ideas are popular globally as are our deserts. UK food tends not be spicy or in the top 10 but can be lovely comfort food. But the "European food has grown stale try salad cream" is just obvious guardian clickbait idiocy.

Admit it: the English love affair with European food has grown stale โ we need a native cuisine we can be proud of | Lewis Bassett
Between 1943 & 1967 the scientist Bertold Wiesner used his own sperm on the 1st artificial insemination project. He is thought to have fathered between 600 & 1000 children in the London area during this period, his living descendents now number in the thousands. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bertold...

Trump on DC: "Nobody wanted to eat out. They were afraid. Even if you were in the restaurant, people would walk in and like the Wild West, 'Hold it up!' Everybody is standing there. Can you imagine? A fancy restaurant. They were robbing the whole restaurant. It's crazy."
Are YOU married to your cousin? Unknowingly friends, neighbours or work colleagues with your niece, uncle, grandchild or even sibling? In London theres a good chance that quite a few people are. And its all down to a doctor born in a village in North Eastern Austria in 1901.

Good article by @nialloconghaile.bsky.social on "Swiss option". Almost gave up on this a few years back - not due to UK - but rather Swiss option was time consuming for EU. However given int developments I sense both EU & UK are coming round to this again. eastangliabylines.co.uk/news/brexit/...

Superb from @pimlicat.bsky.social Too many people treat the rejoin debate as if we are still in 2016 (or the 1990s for that matter). Its 2026 and literally every important question related to the UK - be it economic, defence, climate change, education or crime - the answer is: rejoin the EU.
Every argument you need to hear about why the UK must pursue EU membership, in 90 seconds. @pimlicat.bsky.social on Politics Live ๐
Most culture articles are just PR fluff or made up nonsense. You can tell when journalists are just inventing stuff as they use "may" alot. "What actors may face..." - they simply dont know. Also, the article list "3 or 5" actors attending. Its just made-up. www.theguardian.com/film/2026/oc...

Dear @simonusherwood.bsky.social UK doesnt need a โฌ opt out as EU explicitly leaves it up to ALL members states when they join โฌ. This is enshrined in: 1. EU regulations 2. Practice: leaving it up to states (POL/SWE) when they join 3. Technicality: theres no mechanism to force a state into โฌ
Today's diversion: how the EU might handle UK non-participation in the Eurozone tl;dr understandings bump into obligations 1/

If someone opens a very heavy door a bit for you, you have 4 choices 1. Complain that its being done too slowly 2. Complain that guy opening is not perfect 3. Sit & watch from the sidelines till the door is fully open 4. Help them push it open a little bit more I think the 4th option is best.

Please stop this nonsense. Trump & Bibi have been elected multiple times. Bibi has been the leading politician in Israel for 2 decades now. The constant attempt to ascribe no agency to the people & culture that brought these leaders forward is why they (& people like them) will continue in power.

Rookie error. A "Striper" contractor in rural Devon is someone who does soft strip demolition. This is the 1st phase of a house renovation where all internal, non-structural elements are removed to clear the space down to its bare shell while leaving the core building framework completely intact.

It comes to something when some young tourist knows more about the Ancients & the Classics than italian authorities. If this goes to court, the authorities are going to be made into a laughing stock and the female tourist into a star.
Italian officials are trying to identify a young woman who was filmed kissing, humping, and grinding against a statue of Bacchus, the God of wine and sensuality, in Florence over the weekend.

Its a common trope among conservatives that modern education is "all shall have prizes" a way to make kids "feel better". Here is Trump being absolutely delighted that some random guy presents him with a made up "Man of the Century Award" as Trump was so upset he didnt get the Nobel Peace Prize.
Joe Mitchell gives Trump "the man of the century" award (that he just made up)

When Donald Trump's father Fred got Alzheimer's in 1990s the Trump family created a "pretend" or "Potemkin" office for Fred to feel as if he was still in charge. Same thing needs to happen now with Trump. He can issue orders on renaming things, then announce it in front of a paid studio audience.
Quick geography check: which ocean borders Europe? Trump thinks itโs the Pacific: "I think let's keep it the Atlantic Ocean, right? Pacific Oceanโwe're going to call it the American Ocean. How do you think Europe, how do you think Europe would feel? Do you think they'd like that?"

SBC's humour has always been about punching down. A privledged private school kid making fun of the poor & foreigners. Its true Ali G was ostensibly a white person - but it was still about making fun of people he thought "beneath him". In this context it was also about making fun of black people.
Think of the "AI threat" as this years "Millenium bug" except instead of spending billions to sort out quirky dates gone wrong on computers...we are going to be spending hundreds of billions against something we made ourselves from possibly killing us via our fridge's feeback protocols.
Three moths ago, after the Open AI/Hugging Face incident, I half-joked that AI firms had solved the conundrum of all profit projections coming nowhere near the colossal sums invested, by pivoting from AI-as-Hero to AI-as-Menace, from which only more AI can give protection. Joke has aged pretty well.
