I don't think I'll ever understand the constant conversations about videogame series being "dead" or "abandoned" as the worst sin a developer can commit, or the uncritical gratefulness people feel over a series getting a new entry. It's so far removed from why I like games that I just can't engage

Beyond the incapability of "fandom goblins" to engage with works critically, I feel like the last motherfucker on Earth who actually values the finality of something ending forever and devs moving on to another thing. Why would I want another Sly Cooper or Devil May Cry or whatever, they done man

I'd trade any prospective Metroid sequel that has a chance of recapturing what I love about the old games for a new thing that's a third as innovate and groundbreaking as they was. It's a known quantity just how much serialization can trample creativity, but to get this shit from enthusiasts? pff

the obsession with whether or not fans of a thing are "larpers" is an illness. exact kind of lame gatekeeping bullshit as the guy who'd see a girl in a band shirt and go "name five of their albums" or the comic book guy who has to prove he knows more about batman than you, but for a new generation

It's my great pleasure to give a long overdue progress update on our fully human-translated and human-coded English patch for the legendary Tokimeki Memorial 2!

scott i forgive you for every bad take youve had i didnt know you were chill like that

finished FF7R and it's somewhat surprisingly exactly what I expected, the worst paced bloated AAAA prestige to have the best battle system this side of Kingdom Hearts. And from what I hear about Rebirth it doesn't deliver on its fanfiction aspirations, so yeah just put this combat in 17 pls

scattered thoughts final bosses are legit bad, Tifa is a horrible character, Barret is amazing until chapter 17 turns on him, Sephiroth and Red shouldn't be in this game at all and threaten to ruin "the point", weapon progression is kinda ass, materia is great, the trilogy will 1000% land super flat

People always say miyazaki made souls sell well through difficulty but this is wrong imo, his main innovation was pushing the multiplayer stuff. From was already making hard and (imo) quietly funny games about overcoming difficulty for decades, multiplayer made them more accessible and funny

just got the part in ff7r where they [spoilers] drop the plate and Barret is crying thinking his daughter is dead and Tifa walks up to him and says "We did this, it was us" and I'm fucking dying yeah girl way to go tell the grieving man that he killed his daughter.

Then Barret has to be like "No, you can't think like that, Shinra's the BAD GUYS remember?" the moment to moment writing in this game is so fucking ass, they stretch every single plot beat to infinity to fit a bloated 40h game and they still fail to hit them shit's fucking hilarious

Tifa legit sucks in this game. She puts Cloud through the ringer, is emotionally unavailable to everyone, shuts Barret down at every point, doesn't drive a single plot beat forward, and the game constantly ogles her like "know how much porn there is of her?". AND she's the worst one to play as
