Just dropped an article in @shelterforce.bsky.social on what "ROAD to Housing" means for disaster recovery. TLDR, this isnt the end of the fight, its the beginning. The disaster team at @nlihc.org will keep pushing for efficient effective and transparent funds! shelterforce.org/2026/10/06/h...

Take action today to tell congress that FEMA funding should not be used as a political bargaining chip to allow ICE and CBP to continue their ongoing and imminent threats to the areas where they operate. Learn more and see how you can take action: https://ow.ly/p1kK50Ycnll

Sen. Tillis calls for Kristi Noem to be fired:  “Another part of the Secretary of Homeland Security job is disaster response, and I cannot tell you enough how incompetent…she is on that score as well.”

Seeing some reactions to the Minneapolis Emergency Management Director's comments from the other day and I swear, EMs are 2nd only to lawyers in finding one little finicky aspect of something to write 5 paragraphs of outraged jargon about when they actually just mean they don't want to help people.

The best of emergency management right here: telling it like it is

Sayre: "My background is in international humanitarian response in conflict zones in Yemen, Haiti, Syria, Iraq, and Ukraine. What I've seen here is what I've seen there. A powerful entity violently and intentionally terrorizing people."

Star Fleet Acadamy is adequately goofy - its a good concept and Holly Hunter is great. But I just hate the Star Trek Discovery timeline so, so much. I'll take what I can get though.

Pike is so worried about not following orders and making paella. When was the last time he scanned a planet just because the composition of its atmosphere was interesting?

On the Gulf coast in Texas this was the result of facially neutral policies that diverted reconstruction funds from populous Black cities to tiny white enclaves. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...

"Our analysis shows that in the aftermath of extreme weather events, lower-income neighbourhoods are less likely to rebuild and do not return to their pre-disaster state, whereas higher-income areas rebuild and tend to improve...highlighting increasing disparities in their built environments."

1/ Housing problems like inadequate heating, water damage, and pest infestations don't only affect your health. These issues also make the housing crisis worse. We're putting housing quality under the lens in our new series, Fit to Live in: Fixing Our Housing Stock. bit.ly/UTLhabitabil... 🧵

For households with low-incomes, the rent is always going to eat first - with SNAP helping make up the gap. Without that subsidy, theres very little to make up the difference. Cant believe there's money sitting in the bank for it, but its not getting used 👀

It couldn't be clearer. The Trump Administration MUST use contingency reserves for SNAP benefits during the shutdown. It is the law & precedent. The Administration's choice treats people like political pawns rather than people who simply need help affording groceries.
