Hey Rex Regnat fans, I have good news! First, thanks to Blue Panther, we have a second printing of the game available for order here- www.bluepantherllc.com/products/rex... Second, for those of you going to @sdhistcon.bsky.social , I will be participating in the night market there as well!

For me it's 1. Lord of the Rings Adventure Game 2. Middle Earth Role-playing Game 3. AD&D 4. 2nd Edition AD&D 5. Warhammer Fantasy Roleplay My dad was into role-playing games and Tolkien, so he introduced me through MERP, after which I borrowed his AD&D stuff and the rest is history

My first 5 ttrpgs in the order they were played. 1. Red Box D&D 2. James Bond 3. AD&D 4. Homemade Murder Mystery LARP 5. Rolemaster (I think, trying to sort out the timing is a bit tangled)

OK, so: HYPOTHETICALLY, if I were to be accepted into the PAX Unplugged Rising Showcase, would anyone be open to helping me at the booth to demo Rough Roads? (boosts appreciated!)

This was the first major testing of Complicit (name subject to change), a 2 vs 2 worker placement + card game I'm developing with @nerdparker.com . We came away with a laundry list of changes (fully expected), but I'm heartened because the testers really seemed to love the game. (4/5)

Finally, I got to spend some good time with my friends and get a perspective on the Tabletop industry. I am glad that the indie, "ars gratia artis" ethos is still so strong. My love of tabletop is rooted in expression, community, and creativity, and I am glad that so many others share that (5/5)

Hench sold out*, which is great! I think the packaging was a major factor, but it's nice to feel validated in pursuing something more approachable. For lessons learned, my booth layout was inefficient, I should have a copy set up for folks to see how it plays *I traded a few copies away (2/5)

Train of Thought seems to be in an overall good place, with the playtesters really digging the theme and core systems. There are some small changes required to the board and some components, and I need to test a couple of changes to the Teach system, but things feel on track (ha ha) (3/5)

The Nights of King Ludd follows up @yoyoni.bsky.social's Chicago '68 with a very different sort of public demonstration: breaking stocking frames, burning mills, and forever having your movement's name tarred by propaganda. My preview: spacebiff.com/2026/09/03/n...

spacebiff.comAll Hail King LuddWhat recourse is there for the public when their leaders will not listen, their employers have broken the compacts that bind society, and their bellies gnaw with hunger? If two examples are suffici…

Hey #PaxWest ✂️🎲 folks! I've got some games to show! If you'll be attending and/or any of these strike your fancy, reach out! I'll have details in the sub-posts below. I will shill these again before events, so don't worry if you miss this post 😄

Second is Train of Thought, a combination of 18xx-mechanics and classical philosophy, using a tightly contested worker placement system at the core. It plays 2-6 and takes about 90-120 minutes. It's pretty far along, and I'll be testing it Friday the 4th from 2-5 (as well as other times maybe...)

Last is a newer project with @nerdparker.com - Complicit, a card / worker placement game for 2 teams of 2 in 45 minutes. You and your partner are trying to complete a heist in a cyberpunk future before the other team does. It's early days, but a lot of fun! Testing Saturday 5th 10:30am-2pm

First is Hench, a 30-minute, 3-6 player game of backstabbing cartoon minions in a VHS case. @danthurot.bsky.social has a great review of it here - spacebiff.com/2026/08/25/h... I'm selling it at the PNW Tabletop Game Market on Saturday 5th 7-10 pm. You can also order from me after the event!

spacebiff.comMooksHench is a strange, lovely beast. It’s as far as it gets from Edward Damon’s previous title, Rex Regnat, and not only because its Saturday morning cartoon vibe is a sharp contrast with …

Dan has a lovely review of Hench up! If cartoon backstabbing minions tickles your fancy, check it out at #PAXWest or reach out after the event for a copy.

Dan Thurot@danthurot.bsky.social

Hench offers a cartoon approach to minionhood, a brief meditation on what it means to collaborate under a dark lord. It's a little under-baked, but thanks to a short duration and colorful artwork it's still worth a half-hour of backstabbing and snide remarks. My review: spacebiff.com/2026/08/25/h...

Last box of Hench is packed (hopefully there will be another run later)! Game is submitted to the arbiters at BGG. Now to just sit and stress for the next month until PAX West...

First round of solo testing + tweaks + testing again the Disco scenario and the 4 diffent player decks is done - notes in next post(s) (card images at the end as a reward for folks who slog through):

2) I am cheating by having Parley actions to deal damage ina couple of cases, rather than having two "tracks" of damage. This seems a lot friendlier for mixed groups, but is kind weird thematically. Arkhams demands combat, so it's sort of forgivable, but I don't know if it's immersion-breaking.

3) I have a major hand-attack theme in the encounter set. I know some people find discard kinda violating, but it ties in with themes of less, memory, and regret. Not sure if that's enough to justify it vs. the player experience. Anyway, enough talk, pretty cards time!

First round of solo testing + tweaks + testing again the Disco scenario and the 4 diffent player decks is done - notes in next post(s) (card images at the end as a reward for folks who slog through):

1) Everything basically works. 2) I was able to clear it with all 4 versions of Harry on Standard, though some were considerably easier than others. 3) Not sure if I'm being too generous with clues, trying to follow Dunwich Scenario 1 as a template 4) Victory ranged from 2-6, which seems correct

Some questions for folks who play a lot of Arkham Horror LCG - 1) How much telegraphing do you want before a boss encounter? In the first draft, entering the final location spawned the boss, now I have a "doorstep" location which spawns the boss nextdoor, which is fairer but less exciting

Alright, first draft of the first Scenario for the Disco Arkham Horror set set is done (along with base decks for the 4 flavors of Harry). Now to see if I can playtest it a couple of times to make sure it's not too busted before I throw more energy at it.

Kicking myself for not having a game to submit to this stellar event this year. But in truth, the game I was gonna bring got signed so I suppose I can't complain too much. If *you* have a game that's more than a bit offbeat, considering signing up and selling copies at IGNM at PAX U!

reminder: you've got until 9pm eastern tomorrow to submit an application to be a vendor for the Indie Games Night Market! I'll then spend a couple weeks going over the submissions and let folks know by the 15th whether or not you've been selected! www.newmillindustries.com/ignm-app

Received copies of Thought Complex to sell at the PAX West Indie Night Market this Sept. It looks so great! The game was manufactured by Launch Tabletop. I've got a couple of design journals I'll be publishing tomorrow and Thurs that cover the design and manufacturing experience. To PAX! #boardgames

For the threes of people this is of interest for, I've started spending some of my copious free time on a Disco Elysium set for Arkham Horror (Strange Eons is a good tool). The goal is 4 pre-built investigator decks, one for each flavor of Harry, and a 3-mission mini campaign. Teasers attached!

Saw The Odyssey last night, and quite enjoyed it. It was in dialogue with Oppenheimer, but was a better exploration of cleverness as both a blessing for "solving problems" and a societal curse (what happens after the problem is solved). I really hope I can explore this in my designs (someday)

Please forgive me some self-promotion here. My game Sykes-Picot was released in 2025, and I think it fits the criteria of the Summit Award quite well. It is easy to teach and play, and it covers a unique historical topic in a novel way. To anyone willing to nominate it, I'd be highly appreciative.

Nominations are now open for the 2026 Summit Award (for historical games published in 2025) and the 2026 Bobby Nunes Memorial Award (for historical gaming content published in 2025)! More info, and the nominations form, available here: sdhist.com/nominations-...

Public Domain Art is the lifeblood of small tabletop rpgs, but it can be a nightmare trying to find the right art and license. This week, I’ve re-uploaded my old list from 2020 (with updates) of public domain websites. That's 500,000+ public domain paintings, photos, maps, and film. Link below 🔗👇
