I just released a new mod for Dark Souls Remastered that restores the game's three Unused/Cut Content Rings! This is the first time these rings have been restored with their original functionality fully recreated. Download here: www.nexusmods.com/darksoulsrem... #darksouls #gaming #modding #mods

"Mass Effect Council" I wonder if this guy even realizes he's part of the problem. The fact that we're not getting these details from a creative, a writer or director, we're getting them from a focus group member. These faceless games that are nobody's passion, no one's idea, championed by no one 1/

Otherwise kiss creative industry goodbye. We'll have teams of hack writers trying to appeal to AI focus groups, scabs with no integrity or passion standing in the place where real creatives should be. And that's the real tragedy. The people who should be there aren't because they won't take it.

If you're been a member of a focus group go fuck yourself. If you're a financier who wants to control the work, go fuck yourself. Nobody should be standing between an artist and their expression. Certainly not if you want to be making money. Fund the art and back the fuck off and get real.

and it shows in the work, it shows in the experience. And gamers just don't fucking buy it. These companies will throw millions of dollars away before they shitcan the focus groups and just let the creatives work. There's no confidence whatsoever from the people financing these projects. Zero.

And it's a projection of a lack of confidence from the financiers. They DON'T KNOW what is good. They have no fucking clue. Yet somehow society is structured around pleasing them because they happen to have money. Creatives need to say FUCK YOU! Controlling the coinpurse doesn't control the art!

Games made to please investors first. Where writers and creatives are all but eliminated save for their ability to appease focus groups. Fuck focus groups! How about empowering creatives? Pay a fucking writer to write the game and make it. Nobody wants a focus group made game, they want art and soul

Imagine being the writers here. Every idea you have is sanitized and sanded down to appeal to the board. Every concept bleached and whitewashed. I couldn't stomach it, I doubt many creatives can. So who is left but hacks who will write to appease the faceless board members? Those with no integrity

Every Minecraft update changing one or two classic textures slowly remaking the game into something different and uglier. Like each day you wake up and see your favorite painting dabbed with a new brushstroke or your favorite statue with random chisel marks in it. Sad, disrespectful, offensive, etc

I found this file inside Control Resonant while reverse engineering the game. It's from a test district called "outside area". It seems the devs wanted to delete this but couldn't for one reason or another. Fascinating look behind the game dev curtain! Thanks to @remedygames.com for the great game!

Mojang's update philosophy for Bedrock is so onerous for mod devs. Updates randomly modify internal data with no notice, sending devs like me on a wild goose chase to fix it. A package like "2.6.0-beta" might randomly change to "2.7.0-beta" with no notice and break mods. It's killing the ecosystem.

Shakespeare’s plays were performed to no more than 3,000 people at a time in his day at the Globe theatre. Today we have tons of common words, phrases, and concepts coined by him. Meanwhile today people have hundreds of thousands of followers and still feel like their voice is powerless.

“Officials don’t want to be on Bsky because they get yelled at” 🙄 These replies from X are on a post of Chuck Schumer celebrating a parade. Bsky is much kinder than other platforms!

Got blocked for saying that games are expensive and a lot of the people buying them are poor. From two guys who work in video games. Gaming has become so toxic toward its own customers. Many of the people who make games hate themselves and the people who buy their stuff. What a pathetic existence.

Worst part of game price discourse is it’s not even clear that raising prices will lead to higher revenues. The main reason I don’t support raising prices is because I suspect it will lead to LOWER revenues as fewer people buy the game, a large enough reduction to wipe away the gains from pricing.

how can you look at mario kart world being $110 before tax and not think something is terribly wrong in gaming right now

It’s honestly insane to go online and tell people that their complaints about the price of something are not valid. If you’re lucky enough to be financially stable then good for you. But fuck off if you’re coming on here to act like what you can afford is what everyone else should pay.

“insane obnoxious offensive post on your feed” *replies disabled* Any platform that creates this situation is shitty. If OP doesn’t want replies their posts should be excluded from feeds and kept to their followers only. Otherwise it just leads to people posting intentionally offensive nonsense.

Godot 4.4 has a bug where the ResourceLoader just fails half the time and it’s been there for a month now unfixed. I only updated begin with to fix a physics bug with particles 😖

The majority of all games ever released were made as self funded passion projects. The investor driven corporate games industry is the exception not the rule. You don’t need to engage with that side of the field if all you want to do is make a video game.

playing pokemon as an adult is one of those isekai reincarnation stories where you're reborn as a baby in another world and you use the full weight of your publicly educated, adult mind to cheat and dominate this world at the age of 12

Posts like “Do not open the door for ICE unless they have a warrant!” Are so funny. It’s like everything happening would be A-OK if the bad guys just did the right paperwork first.

Seems like a lot of folks want to work in games because it’s a field where you get money from an investor then screw around on a computer for 6 years. And not because they actually want to make a video game. Which explains why so many folks are concerned with perceived stability above all else.

Tomorrow is the #futuregamesshow and we'll be live with an official co-stream of it by 12:30 PST

I have been so busy this week that I hadn't had time to announce this buuuuut: I will be officially co-streaming both the Future Games Showcase and the PC Gaming Show this Saturday & Sunday respectively 🥳🎊 Catch me live a half hour before each showcase begins for giveaways & announcements! 📺

This is a big reason why many movies suck. It doesn’t matter who has the best idea, the rights go to who has the most money. Imagine if they just got to make and release their movie and people could choose to watch the good one? Intellectual property actively makes everything around us worse.

Splitgate shows that the only reliable way to get attention these days is to be controversial. A bunch of people are now talking about the game who otherwise would have never posted about it, it’s basically the star of the show. The market demands controversial content and so the supply is created.

I think most indie games could stand to look a lot worse. AAA really isn’t as shiny as it’s made out to be. A few well positioned particles and your PSX style horror game can compete visually! #gamedev #indiedev
