Trump currently holds up to $81 million in oil and gas stocks. His stocks have increased in value by 43% since the end of 2025.

Fascism hasn’t been defeated and democracy isn’t and wasn’t dead. But in an attention economy, where analysts are their own media brand, politics is increasingly reduced to simplistic sensationalist statements, which generate strong emotional responses but little actual insight.

Will I go to see the documentary everyone is talking about? Not sure. I find the subject reprehensible and the auteur, despite being a darling of the critics, plain old skeevy in everything he does.

JUST POSTED: Today at The NYT we are publishing a major investigation into how President Trump used his executive powers to expose millions of Americans to greater cancer risks. A six month-long investigation built on more than 10,000 pages of FOIA records. Read it www.nytimes.com/2026/10/24/c...

Watching an old (2024?) BBC series crime called New Blood about two young guys working together who are totally different and someone should reboot it. The guys are adorable becasue they are what every woman would recognixe as 20-something BOYS. Really dumb and sweet but smart.

NEW: A major Russian propaganda campaign has waded into the US midterms, seeding a fake video that purports to show a former student of James Talarico accusing him of sexual assault. The group spread near-identical disinformation about Tim Walz in 2024. factcheck.afp.com/doc.afp.com....

Trump’s vanity projects — a gold ballroom, a $100M “Triumphal Arch,” gold-plated horse statues, a $50M golf course — are set to cost taxpayers $1.8+ billion. Here’s what that money could have been spent on:

Billions of tax dollars to lock people up instead of letting them work and pay taxes.

Back in July, I analyzed the immigrant detention data to find that over 600,000 people have been booked into detention since the start of the Trump administration. By the end of the admin, this could reach 1.75M people. The scale is appalling. austinkocher.substack.com/p/over-60000...

I want this to be a movie and for Greta Gerwig to direct it.

Steve Witkoff to Putin: You talk so much about my president, President Trump, being a humanitarian. You are a humanitarian also, sir, and I salute that, I commend you, and I thank you again.

My brain cannot process this level of corruption. She was being paid $50 million to engineer a pardon from Trump *while working at the Justice Department* as a "Special Government Employee." And it worked. He got the pardon, and she got the money. www.nytimes.com/2026/10/20/u...

He got it not long after his daughter gave Ms. Habba, a lawyer close to President Trump, an extraordinarily lucrative job.

Huge follow-up reporting to my scoop: The Guardian confirmed America Next—the conservative nonprofit founded by Bobby Jindal that was offering students $ to disrupt El-Sayed events—paid a firm registered to Tommy Teepell’s dad Timmy $250k for “canvassing and influencer marketing” against El-Sayed.

New York should also immediately change its name to New America. We are not York, we are the United States of America! Likewise for New Hampshire, which will also now be called New America! And we will also have New America, formerly New Jersey! And New America, Louisiana as well!

I've lived in NYC for 50 years and never once thought of horse carriage drivers in Central Park as "transportation". It's not like taxi drivers. It's more like entertainment and there have been decades for drivers to find other ways to make a living.
