The Federal Reserve acted intentionally to burn off "excess savings" from COVID relief.

This is a rehash of the vibecession debates but median household income adjusted for inflation hit a record in 2024 (2025 data will be released in September). It’s just *not true* in any objective sense that people don’t have money anymore. It may *feel* that way but that’s different from reality.

SUPER LIBBED UP DEMOCRAT: I want the homeless people off the streets. LEFTY: OK, how about we give them $10,000, an amount we know will more than pay for itself in reduced social costs like emergency care and incarceration? SLUD: No, not like that.

my early thoughts on the new Taylor: - her lyrical corniness is getting less endearing over time - she doesn’t embrace the showgirl theme enough musically - sabrina has her a little shook, and her attempts to imitate that style are rough - as always, there are a few bops

Unfortunately, amid the multiple crises our city is in, covid isn't taking a break. Due to the latest public health data showing a rampant level of spread over the past few weeks, the Blade is raising the local risk level in the Asheville area to CATASTROPHIC. 🧵 #avlnews

there isn’t much morally to discuss re AOC’s vote on iron dome, it’s indefensible. but politically it makes me think she’s eyeing the NY senate primary in 2028 at least as much as the presidential one, if not leaning more towards the senate race.

imagine if someone told you in 2003 that Dave Matthews would have better politics than Radiohead

Dave Matthews, who protested Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Congress last summer, held up signs that said “STOP KILLING CHILDREN” AND “STOP THE GENOCIDE” at Lovin’ Life Festival in Charlotte, NC on Sunday

BREAKING: The Supreme Court, on a 5-4 vote, ends the TROs in the Alien Enemies Act litigation, holding challenges must be brought in habeas and in the jurisdiction in which detainees are held. The court also holds that notice and an actual opportunity to bring a habeas case must be given.

Protests in major cities across the U.S. today and throughout the week. I took these screenshots from the PSL National ig @pslnational. You should also follow @palestinianyouthmovement on ig

We'll see more of this as the tech bubble bursts.

I worked for a prototyping machine shop that made parts for meta's vr hardware. Some of the worst designed parts I've ever had to manufacture, churned out by a constantly shifting team of designers with absolutely no frame of reference for how much something should cost to make.

The first time I ever decided to actually see for myself if Tesla was doing what Musk said it was doing, a decade ago this year, I caught them faking battery swap technology to defraud California's ZEV credit system. Ever since it's just been on fraud after the other. slate.com/technology/2...

There’s some kind of career optimization coaching bro on Twitter who has translated Remains of the Day into a business book parable webinar presentation and it might be the most amazing thing I’ve ever seen

On the left, my image. On the right, the Al image that was clearly trained on, and designed to plagiarize, my image. All Al generated imagery is inherently theft. It's unethical, environmentally disastrous, and does irreparable harm to both artists and society.

Though it's also worth noting that deaths are *way* down from previous winters. Also more concentrated among the elderly: People 18-49 were 7x more likely to die of COVID in previous waves than in the last 6 months.

a dumb thing prequels do is answer shit that doesn't need answered (e.g. where han solo came from—a greedy guy is named greedo here, we're fine) and create permanently irreconcilable questions, like: how is "he fucked a robot" not in the first 3 things you say about a guy you know who fucked a robot
