I’ve spent at least a little time on voting day in each of my last three campaigns diving in to the bins and spinning some platters at The Record Centre. Tomorrow I’ll be there from 4:30-6. Drop by, say hi, and enjoy some tunes. And be sure to vote!

Remember: Wealth cannot be separated from power. We're seeing in real time how the extreme concentration of wealth is distorting our politics, rigging markets, and granting unprecedented power to a handful of people. Taxing the rich isn't just an economic issue, it's a defense of our democracy.

Last weekend, some of our team members were harassed by Councillor Tierney while dropping flyers in his ward. This is unacceptable behaviour not befitting of a councillor. Constituents deserve to be aware of this behaviour and Tierney's lack of response to our communications.

US garment workers helped pioneer multi-ethnic labor unions, which united people across racial, religious, gender, linguistic, and cultural divides. Also native-born citizens and immigrants. I think about that sometimes when I see people suggest such divides are unbridgeable.

When John started, sexual orientation wasn’t protected from hate crimes in Canada’s criminal code. He describes the climate of the time - it’s astonishing we have come so far

It’s irresponsible to set an arbitrary ceiling on tax hikes when city services and infrastructure are crumbling.

It’s irresponsible to run for mayor without telling residents how much you plan to raise their taxes. I've committed to keeping property taxes between 2 and 2.5% for the next two years. I delivered on affordability over the last four years, and I’ll do it again.

As Canada awaits the Alberta separation referendum results, let’s remember how stupid this all is. Huge public money spent on a Russian & American-fuelled separation movement for an awfully-written and badly managed unbinding referendum on whether to hold a binding referendum that would be illegal.

On transit, my record is clear. I have consistently voted against service cuts and I co-sponsored a motion with @jleiper.bsky.social to restore 5-min LRT frequency — one that was ultimately defeated by the current mayor and his supporters.

Everything that Sean says here. Cast your votes wisely, people.

What is going on with cars hitting people in Ottawa?! Yesterday, a man in a motorized wheelchair sustained serious injuries after being hit by a driver. This comes on the heels of 4 FATALITIES in just 6 days involving vulnerable road users (pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists). 1/7

What I learned tonight: my live posting focus has a 1 hour limit. Is it menopause? burnout? Or a healthy boundary? At any rate, the debate will be on YouTube. I’ll post the link and you can check it out for yourselves!

The questions are fast and furious. Questions are being directed to two candidates at a time so they can get more in. Topics have ranged from development, tree coverage, the climate plan, who they are voting for mayor, how they’ll be accessible and more

Joanne - has written about the Carleton Tavern development on her Substack. Having gone through the rules, remains unconvinced that 30 stories is appropriate for the neighbourhood

Xavier: larger question. Why are we talking about a 30 story tower? Wards are not sharing the development burden equally. If we had Montreal or Paris style density it would be

Joanne. Not all crime is related to people who are unhoused, have mental health or addiction issues - but there has been an increase as poverty and homelessness rise. Ending homelessness a priority - also engage neighbourhood resource teams, community police officers

Hintonburg up next about concerns re planning decisions; cynicism about the role that community association plays. Brian: Has seen that councillor sets the tone for how other councillors and staff see projects

Brian: people see the change that’s happening in our neighbourhood. It’s hard to disentangle drug use etc from what’s happening. Housing is key - we also have to help people in crisis - anchor needs to be expanded beyond island park. Expanded community policing

Xavier: we shouldn’t be afraid to say that when provinces shut down safer injection sites, we are going to see more drug use in our community. Behaviour is consequence of our failure to build our economy, create opportunities for young people

Subir: championed neighbourhood watch in his community. Cites crime stats. We have to be responsive - policing, ANCHOR, beat officers in corridors - and preventative - housing as a right

Brian - we have lost 4 urban arenas, the curling club and now the Ottawa Gymnastics Centre. He also agrees that Tunneys and Bayview Yards are good sites. Need to get buy in from different levels of government

Xavier: two words. urban decay and infrastructure levy (note: that’s 4). We have to make sure recreational facilities are maintained, world class and accessible to every neighborhood. We need a skate park.

Joanne response: more recreation is criticism. Zoning for new housing is being approved all the time - community has been pushing for a pool at Tunneys but no dice from the Feds. Will work with MP. Also looking to other city land to adddress recreation facility deficits.

Subir wants to keep Kitchissippi revenue in Kitchissippi - we are the second highest revenue generator, but we don’t see the return. He also looks to Tunneys as the site for a recreation space

We’ll be hearing from the candidates running to represent this ward in Ottawa’s city council. There’s at least one school trustee candidate here too, but alas she was told to stop distributing flyers.

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.
