My latest review for @bookforum.bsky.social is also out now. In it, I think alongside Namwali Serpell’s resplendently rigorous new book on Toni Morrison about the last greatest living writer’s legacy and how we’re meant to read her.

Every college in this country decided that expelling and/or sending the police to beat the shit out of their own students for the crime of being opposed to genocide was their top priority. That and giving Trump complete control of what they teach. Contrast that with how they treat rapists.
Remember when the president of Cornell got so mad at some anti-Israeli-genocide protestors on campus he tried to hit some of his own students with his car?
I have a chapter coming out about Black autofiction that could have just been about Zami but thinks about the genre through @jstheater.bsky.social’s Annotations and Alison Millls Newman’s Francisco. There’s so much to talk about beyond Heti and Cusk.
I’m tired of reading about autofiction written by white writers. Carlos Bulosan’s AMERICA IS IN THE HEART from 1946 was autofiction before it was trendy. Except that it was about Filipino men, blurring the novel and collective autobiography.

We have just witnessed an incredible A/B test showing how plagiarism allegations at Cambridge University play out depending on how racialized the subject of the allegations are and it says nothing good about our society or the state of "race relations". O'Reilly is still in post.

next faculty activity report I have to submit I'm just going to write 'here to be brown on campus'
TAH, in an interview with The Chronicle, refers to non-white people being hired in the academy as a form of “barbarism” and suggests they “have no business teaching college students.” Is it possible he encountered unqualified candidates once at Bates? Sure. But this is racist af.

The president of my college is finally resigning in disgrace, but the situation remains bleak. Our search for a chief librarian was canceled and the adjuncts we hired as stop-gaps when we couldn't replace retired faculty have all been cut. How are we supposed to support students in these conditions?

Inspired by the reissue of Greg Tate’s "Flyboy in the Buttermilk" and New Eyes Collective, a new group of Black culture writers, we invited nine artists and writers to reflect on how the erudite critic influenced them. hammerandhope.org/forums/greg-...
