NOT A DUNK, SERIOUS ANSWER: $40 for a domain with certificate annually, $20 or $30 a month hosting, varies. Yes web design sucks hard, but it's achievable & learnable by humans. Templates exist. It's not zero dollars, but it's very doable, it just cuts into your art time.

Ale@alepresser.com

Ok, time to do some dangerous ~opinions~ on the Tapas shutting down subject. First: I see everybidy going "see, that's why you should not rely on a platform, you gotta have your own website" and my bro in christ, do you have any idea how expensive and HARD it is to have your owm website?

Good documentary, and it was super cool to see my buddy @oneofthejohns.bsky.social 's art featured throughout!

@opb.org and @stonthat.bsky.social have made a documentary about Portland, Oregon's comics scene! YEARS of work went into this, and they did a hell of a job. #pdxcomics. It debuted at @rosecitycc.bsky.social, and now everyone can see it. Go, watch! www.opb.org/article/2026...

Apropos of I am VERY mad for a friend: If you have not made a comic book before and are coming from other media writing, GET A COMICS EDITOR. Comics looks easy. There are 1,000 sins you will commit if you haven't written a comic before and an editor will save your ass.

Hey! I'll be in NYC from Sept. 23-25 and am looking for recommendations for places to stay. I know it's expensive and was hoping to not spend more than $300/night if possible. I'm looking for a place close to the subway since I'll be bouncing around to for meetings and friends.

BREAKING: The so called 'SAVE' Act has FAILED in the Senate and will not become law. I wrote this piece on how in reality, this is the Voter Restriction Act to prevent women from voting. It is fascism and would have installed Trump as a permanent dictator. www.qasimrashid.com/p/the-save-a...

Hey cartoonists, do not sign on for this. If they aren’t paying animators or authors, they sure as hell aren’t paying livable graphic novel advances. And also, it sucks.

I can't get over people whining, "But what if I'm baaaad at that?!" in response to everyone telling them not to outsource their creativity to fucking AI. Who raised you? What did they teach you? Fuck all, apparently, because being shit at something isn't an excuse to cheat. Come on.

Jonathan Hill reposted

I don't mean to brag but many of my friends are authors, and I am an author, and also we would all rather die than use AI to do even a fraction of our craft. AI in art is for cowards unwilling to be vulnerable for long enough to learn. The prompt is the easy part. Always has been.

Laura Keating@lorekeating.bsky.social

I keep seeing "all authors use AI, the real issue is they're being forced to be sneaky about it" headlines. Full stop No. This is a lie peddled for normalization. It's schoolyard-level pressure tactics "C'mon, all the cool kids are already doing it. We won't tell. It's fine. We're on your side."

Remember when education was all like “git gud” and now everyone is like “but automating homework is the same as learning, right?” smh

If you willingly use this. You have to be one of the dumbest shits alive. This company is no friend to artists. Its become a AI shill, nothing more. (How long till workplaces abuse this by feeding off the work done in house, then fireing staff to "cut costs"?) My guess is not long.

Leaving aside the blow this would be to our democracy & civil society, the collapse of USPS would likely destroy the US economy & US businesses. No regular business can afford to double their shipping expenditures by using a private service. It won’t happen. They’ll all just go out of business.

The Postmaster General says USPS might be forced to stop deliveries in 2027 if current trends continue. Postmaster David Steiner says the postal service "will be out of cash in less than 12 months." Steiner has has also been on the board of directors of FedEx since 2009.
