I am hearing that on his deathbed Lindsey Graham received the light of Islam and unhesitatingly recited the Shahada. Even now he looks down on the Ummah from the gardens of Jannah.

The free hand of the market once again working its magic (diarrhea)

I’ve been teaching college courses since Fall 1999 — at a community college, an art school, and two research universities in three different states — and I’ve never once heard this expressed by anyone, anywhere, at any level in higher ed. This is bullshit of the highest order.

It is growing common to hear academics shrug that perhaps students no longer need strong basic skills. That is not pragmatism—it is surrender

The fantasies that the commentariat weaves about higher ed bear little resemblance to anything that the average professor, staff member, grad student, or undergraduate experiences in the real world.

A lot of media coverage of the ‘AI’ reading of the Herculaneum scrolls really fails to understand what’s happened here. There’s no language processing happening, the AI/ML is not trained on a corpus of texts or language. It can detect ink to see shapes. HUMAN EXPERTS are then transcribing the text.

“Eroding trust” is a weakest possible framing for an article about an organization that is undermining Congress, stealing all our personal information, manipulating our voting & passport systems, and efficiently operating outside of any laws or govt regulation. This is a national emergency.

I've taken the paywall off this piece, where I tried to imagine what the REAL stories behind some of the great photographs in the 1970s catalogues for the furniture shop Habitat were. I hope a few of you might get chance to have a read... www.tom-cox.com/the-true-sto...

tom-cox.comThe True Stories Behind The Photographs In The Habitat Catalogues Of The 1970sThis is a piece I wrote a while ago but I wanted to make it free to read again. I wrote it during the very early stages of planning for my novel 1983 when a memory popped up of wandering around the No...
