Wab Kinew: "I support Prime Minister Carney’s work to position Canada as a global leader in human rights and democracy. The Indian Act is inconsistent with achieving that vision"
"Wab Kinew calls on Ottawa to abolish Indian Act: "I'm not sure if that lines up with your vision of Canada, that we still have a race-based form of identification in this country. It's long overdue that we have a relationship with Indigenous ppl's in Canada that reflects who we are as Cdns today."

narrative violation ... it's almost as if how it is done and the rate at which it is done matters for attitudes towards immigration and dismissing any criticism as racism isn't helpful for constructing good, broadly supported policy x.com/harry__faulk...

"BC's economic engine is home to the Coast Salish people. We're business people. We talk, we make deals. We don't use words like "settler" or any of that academic language. One of our own, from a high-status family, is even in the new Conservative caucus. But the way other Tory candidates

Completely uninformed guess for BC election - relatively close match between Cons and NDP in popular vote, but a big green turnout, maybe 12%+ resulting in: 63 Conservative 2 Green 28 NDP

You really might end up in somebody else's workplace for the worst day of your life, and it'll just be a day in their job, and you might die or you might live and some elements of that are pretty strongly related to how they get tasks done like I was not joking around I've been there! I'm on the other side of this one, actually. Style counts. If people can hear modelspeak in your prose, it weakens the effect in the same way overusing clichés weakens the effect. I don't care *how* you get there, but if an editor says "this doesn't sound fresh and authentic," you have a problem.
Opinion: If AI is now part of academic writing, what should institutions actually evaluate? This essay argues that analytical writing should be judged by evidence, structure, argument, and accountability not by guesses about how each sentence was produced. https://chroni.cl/4eDRdjg

⚡️ "We will survive and we will not stop to defend us," President Zelenskyy criticized Starlink restrictions as a mistake, questioning why Ukraine's ability to protect itself is being restricted.
interesting to see the shift to corruption as a top concern welling up that focus, on everyday difficulties vs incumbents' corruption and flaunting their wealth, was key to getting Orban out. www.epc.eu/publication/...

Expanded on recent mini threads over the last month on why anti-globalization populism in the US may have peaked. I would like to think that Globalization 2.0 may be a “Sometimes the dustbin of history turns out to be the recycling can” phenomenon. www.ft.com/content/ba3b...

Generally we say “how unfortunate that this is happening under a would-be authoritarian regime in the US!” But there’s also an upside of having this conversation at a moment when we’re acutely conscious of what can happen when you let the Executive Branch make judgment calls.
