This is Anna Bryłka, a Polish right wing MEP. She voted against Erasmus+ program. Because she was already on Erasmus in Italy when she was at the uni, so we don't need it anymore. Seriously tho, she claims it's because Erasmus is tied to the Green Energy projects somehow, and that's bad apparently

She got into a spat with another Polish politician on Twitter about it. Her defenders flocked in. I like this one the most. He suggests she doesn't bother. "Even Solomon would not pour INTO empty" he says. Weird, I made myself a tea earlier today and I poured it into empty mug no problem :)

"even Solomon would not be able to pour from empty vessel" is a Polish equivalent of "you can't get blood from a stone".

The mind of an city official is a funny thing. The city of Wrocław just replied to one of its concillours that "the area of Kępa Mieszczańska is not a formal subdivision of the city's distric, therefore it's not possible to establish it exact borders". Kępa Mieszczańska is the island seen here:

Poland: two teenager girls spotted a bus driver hiding in the back of his bus and pouring vodka into a soft drinks bottle. They took a picture and called the police. Turns out he was already over a limit and was on a break before continuing his job on this day.

Meanwhile, pro-democracy, pro-Europe protesters in Tbilisi, Georgia, are tonight nearing their 700th consecutive day of protest against the pro-Russian government. They haven't missed a single day in the last 23 months.

I have read dozens of outraged posts because the US special envoy Witkoff called Putin a "humanist." But no one is writing about the fact that the American negotiators are simply not doing their job. Let me explain.

#PolishMeme "Sofia, wake up, you gonna sleep all day!" "Leave me alone, hooman. I need to catch up on my sleep after the time change!" "But we have slept one hour extra!" "Exactly".

This Andrew guy is the only guy on here I regret being blocked. He was delivering constant stream of laughs and entertainment :)

Meanwhile in Poland, two news items across two days. 1. On All Saint Days Poles go to cemeteries en masse. In my hometown of Wrocław one of cemeteries is next to the military unit. The army organizes a makeshift car park there. But chinese cars are not allowed, because they are spying on us.

2. An MP is walking around parliament with chinese smart glasses and calls himself "a trendsetter". Apparently Chinese are not allowed to spy in the Military Engineering Unit in Wrocław, but are perfectly welcome in the Polish parliament.

#TruckingNews So I am reading this truck is doing daily runs between Vuosaari and Jyvaskyla, 560 km round trip, pulling two trailers at 68 tonnes gross mass. 650 kWh + hydrogen cell if that's not enough. And comfy Mercedes cab. Eat that, Tesla Semi!

Oh, what a surprise. A Polish travel vlogger who drove his camper around Russia recently and posted about how it's not bad at all while claiming he has nothing to do with Russian propaganda just promoted his ebook about how to drive to Thailand Overland. Promo code : "the fall of europe" :3

I had to block another friend on Facebook today after observing how he got radicalised in express pace by the content from social media he consumes. (a thread) It's amazing how quickly people become radicalized nowadays. Is it a shot-off of the social media alghoritms set to promote engagement?

Meanwhile I coined a new term. Unfortunately it does not work as well in English as it does in Polish. In Polish, the community is "społeczność" and making it an adjective to describe social media results in the term "Media Społecznościowe"

but since they mostly spout hate nowadays, and the hate in Polish is "Nienawiść", from now on I am going to refer to them as Media Nienawiściowe". /END

The other problem is that most of us here, on Bsky and Mastodon, left Twitter, all the politicians and journalists are still there. Their world views is shaped by the alghoritms tweaked by a neo nazi sociopath. We should challenge them on that.

I saw an idea floated by someone, I think one of the Polish journalist - if the politician or a mainstream journalist says they are on X for engagement, we should read back at them 10 random replies to their latest tweet and ask them to indicate which of those are the most valuable for them.

or fall for blaming migrants, trans people or whoever they decide to send us after tommorow, their billions are safe from us. I am retreating to Mastodon. It's a small social media platform. Not many people. But being there, I got the feeling of space, of new horizons.

This seems to be the only place on the internet today where a reasonable discussion and exchange of arguments, and sharing one's joys and worries seems to be still a default mode of operation. But it's a niche. When what just recently was normal is a niche, we have a problem.

Whenever I come back from Instagram or Twitter (or even, to some extent, Bluesky) back to Mastodon, which is my main social media platform now, I feel like I need a hot shower and a proper scrub. But the social media used to be different.

The techno oligarchs know perfectly well this is what their producsts are doing to our brains, to our society. I am fully prepared to believe that they do it deliberately - if we are divided, angry, and jumping at each other throats,

I try to avoid mainstream social media now. It only makes you angry. Everyone on it seems to be angry all the time. Even the allies - when I mentioned to a guy that I support that he posted an AI picture instead of an original one, he started aggressively abusing and offending me.

We are on the same side, FFS, it could be a discussion of how far we should go with allowing AI enhancing to the source pictures when reporting. Instead of it, he spit some saliva at me and I lost any will to discuss anything further with him.

But also: my instagram feed is now 90% Israeli settler violence and gaza genocide. And despite the fact that it is, basically, an instagram account where I post pictures of my cats and mostly follow instagram accounts where my friends post pictures of their pets. Like a dozen or so.

I had this account for ten years or so, it was always about pets. Nudge it slightly into rage-enciting context - like Gaza genocide - and it will never stop showing you just that.

On my main account I followed students who protest agains Helsinki University's ties to Israel. My feed is full of Israeli war crimes. My feed there is full of israeli crimes and settler violence now.

And scrolling this and seeing all this evil and violence makes me angry - even tho it's not news to me. I am aware of the Israeli violence for more than quarter of century now. It must be some psychological mechanism with scrolling that induces that reaction.

I did an experiment recently. I set up a brand new social media account and only gave it one prompt, putting "funny" into the search bar then started scrolling. There was one funny sketch done by a trans woman, which I copied link to to send to my friends.

A day later my feed was full of trans women, half of them AI generated sexy kind of, if you catch my drift. This is how long it takes nowadays to get into a rabbit hole.

Some say the rage content is most engaging on the net, so stupid alghoritms, that don't know any better, just promote it, as it brings the best results. But maybe it's deliberately done, to divide us? Surely Elon Musk does exactly that over on Twitter?

Has he already gave the blowjob to Putin, or is that scheduled for after this press opportunity?
