Bill Gates says AI will make the next 20 years "as turbulent as any period in history." So when the horse archers kill 90% of your city & then take you off to slavery in a frozen steppe, you know why. Oh! Then the plague halves world population. Or maybe Bill Gates just doesn't know much history.

One time I was hired to work for a game analytics firm and then less than 3 months later they closed that whole department, having only just finished training me. That was weird.

It always comes back to this for me; if AI was so good, such a disclosure would be a selling point. If AI was everything these slop jockeys said it was, they should be proud to let people know their game was AI made. But the proof is in the pudding, and they can't stand that people don't want it.

I do design consultancy for $50 USD/hour. I have over a decade of experience designing, coding, directing, and writing RPGs. Feel free to DM me here if interested.

Big companies should just stop making games. Simple as that. It's not profitable enough for them! Once a year you get COD. Every 6 years you get one GTA/RDR. There are a few MMOs. Everything else is either made by Nintendo or indies.

Every time you download a Kenney asset pack and use it in an open-source engine, a billionaire cries

I've made 6 open-source @godotengine.org projects perfect for as a base for your first or next game. Completely human-made and easy to understand code & comments. All visuals and sounds included, CC0! kenney.nl/starter-kits

I find it amateurish when fantasy stories tell you how the magic works before you see it happen. Why? The explanation is plodding and irrelevant until you see how it affects the stakes. But it's so common these days.

"Amazing game, loved every part of it. Except there's a minor sound effect that plays twice and it bothered me. Thumbs down." [861 users found this review useful]

One thing I notice that first-time story writers have in common--especially in videogames--is that nearly every character is meeting every OTHER character for the first time, in the story. Preexisting relationships are the spark-plugs of narrative. You can convey so much through those convos.

Carrie was a great series right up until the end. And then it reveals itself to not have been a modern-day Carrie series at all. It was modern-day Carrion Comfort the whole time. And I *know* Flanagan knows that. And I *know* Amazon wouldn't have approved the latter. But I'm still queasy about it.

The real problem is that Carrion Comfort has a WAY, WAY, WAY different tone than Carrie. So, so different. About as different as two horror novels about psychics can be. On purpose! But, man, you cannot make a Carrion Comfort psychic the protagonist. No amount of feminism can ever make that work.

The only thing that really took me out of Carrie was that they didn't do anything to get around how a GFCI works, and kinda would have been easy to do. There were a lot of other options.

the thing about gen-ai in general is that if it was really useful, they'd keep it for themselves and not try to shove it down out throats all the time.

The video advertising Unity's ew AI-driven autocomplete game maker has 'Mari' who has a game idea they "always wanted to make" and that idea is "Space Corridor" and it looks like this, and that's the strongest argument I can think of for keeping game dev out of the pro-AI crowd's hands.

Many teachers and researchers have noticed the effect AI has on the minds of young students. The most enthusiastic adopters, however, are business managers/executives. I do wonder if that whole class will become effectively mentally incapacitated.

Teams should just start announcing that they plan to not finish their love letter JRPG. "We expect to stop releasing updates by August 2028, and we should suddenly cancel the game sometime in November or December."

IDK if I'll play this game, but I *love* the fact that they're referencing the extremely obscure superhero-psychological horror film Freaks. Deep cut.
