Since our paper on the Changing How I Live Life (CHILL) Study is now out in Psychological Science (doi.org/10.1177/0956...), here's a LONG overdue post on the intervention work we've been doing the past few years! Have you ever wanted to change one of your personality traits?

I'd like to read a piece that grapples with the enormity of the AI-driven loss of the long tail of the internet, that results from e.g. Google directing us to AI answers rather than search. The millions of people running sites that eked out a living, or just paid their hosting costs, with

Something has made this movement incredibly self-sabotaging. 20 years ago, LGBT activists endorsed and campaigned for Dems who opposed same-sex marriage all the time.

It's Peer Review Week, and I have pledged to review at least one article per year for a diamond open access journal; one that charges nothing to publish and nothing to read, and is run by and for the scholarly community, using the new Diamond Reviewer Pledge (forrt.org/diamond-revi...).

Great news! Some of us have been waiting a long time for major funders to not just shovel $ into the maws of the big publishers, and instead support the long tail of scholar-controlled journals that are run on a shoestring

We're delighted to share news in the attached press release that the Open Journals Collective has received a major award of $711,900 from the Gates Foundation to grow support infrastructure for community-governed journals! Want to know more about OJC? Visit www.openjournalscollective.org

enjoying rewatching Attenborough’s Life on Earth, first broadcast in 1979. It still is remarkable in the range of what it covers - and the phenomenal camerawork. Can recommend as a soothing alternative to a diet of world news.

It's unfortunate, but I agree with Sasha. Cofnas should never have been hired (is there a good account of how that happened?), but having been hired I don't like to see him let go for ideological reasons, despite the awfulness of his ideology. I would be fine with dismissing him at his next renewal.

Sasha Gusev@sashagusevposts.bsky.social

Seeing some arguments for firing Cofnas like this one, that (scare quotes) academic freedom should not apply to pseudo-scholarship and taxpayers shouldn't fund scholar-activism. I think this is wrong. /1

It’s amazing what Brian and OSF have done for science. I can imagine how hard the folks at COS must’ve worked to avoid this outcome. I’m extremely grateful to them for creating the reality we live in now. The fact that we’ll miss these services so acutely is a testament to how much they shaped us.

Brian Nosek@briannosek.bsky.social

Over the next several months, we will phase out some popular OSF features. These changes do not affect current public content, which remains safe and accessible. We have prepared support material to help users adapt. I am very sorry for the disruption to your work. Please read this post for details.

I'm interested in finding and potentially supporting people who are interested in doing long-form writing on the big efforts in global health: Gavi, Global Fund, PEPFAR, etc. If this is you or someone you know, please make yourself known!

The people elected an ignorant rapist who advocates war crimes. The Supreme Court says this one president is special and above the law. A majority in both houses of Congress agree. Military leadership is on board with it or has been purged. That's who's in position to not allow it. So here we are.

New post! Most people didn’t think it was possible to develop Covid vaccines fast enough to be useful. In the summer of 2020, I came to a different conclusion. Now I wanted to look back on how it happened, and suggest boldly that we should ask whether that speed should've been the norm all along.

clinicaltrialsabundance.blogWhy were Covid vaccine trials so fast? The timeline to develop coronavirus vaccines blew many predictions out of the water.

Although we were able to reproduce the numerical results, our reanalysis shows that the reported association is not robust. Specifically, it hinges on a coding error.

There’s been a lot of buzz around the Borjas/Breznau (2026) paper (www.science.org/doi/10.1126/...) and potential ideological bias in research. We took a closer look at the data. Could there be a "bias in bias research"? Here is what we found: www.econstor.eu/bitstream/10...

HBS' latest filing in the Gino lawsuit contains a few new details: 1. A committee of 26 professors, admins, and fellows reviewed the allegations, and *unanimously concluded* that there was *clear and convincing evidence* of research misconduct.

Unpopular opinion but if you're interested in the effects of a medical product, it's 'RCT or bust' for me. I can see the case for observational analyses when randomization isn't possible, ethical, or the condition is too rare or some other such thing, but there's no such excuse here.

Saloni@scientificdiscovery.dev

Worth noting that many (not all) of the observational studies so far have been funded by GSK, which sells the shingles vaccine. Vaccines are great and the shingles vaccine is also great (for shingles), but people have got to be a little more skeptical of observational studies funded by pharma IMHO.

Paper arguing it's using the "COD-FISH method" endorsed by Cochrane—a method researchers in the area are not aware of, and that is not listed by Cochrane. The authors also ran 80 subgroup analyses without controlling for multiple testing.

Martin Plöderl@ploederl.bsky.social

5. Xiang stated that they used the “COD-FISH” method to translate different scales to the CDRS. They added that this is “a peer-reviewed method developed by Drahota, Trivella, and Higgins, and endorsed in the Cochrane Handbook for Systematic Reviews of Interventions” (suppl. p. 9).

We take it for granted today that DNA is the genetic code of life, but until the 1940s most scientists thought genes were made of protein! In a new piece, @kevinsblake.bsky.social tells the story of how scientists discovered that DNA is the code of life.

People who thought credibility and individual leaders didn’t matter much in international relations were taking years of cultivated and maintained credibility for granted, and didn’t sufficiently consider that a major power would voluntarily throw so much of it away by empowering a leader with none.

Trump does not think strategically, historically, geographically, or even rationally. He does not connect actions he takes on one day to events that occur weeks later. Allied leaders know that if they help him in the Gulf, he won't be grateful, or even remember www.theatlantic.com/ideas/2026/0...

There’s something sad about how many blogposts are simply copy-pasted ChatGPT output now. It’s not writing, it’s content — not voices, but outputs. When the only button you press is for an LLM, blogposts don’t earn applause, they earn scrutiny.
