There are three main ways you can help my work! First, you can tip me a coffee (or more!) at: Paul Thistoll 03-0547-0039160-001 These tips are really appreciated and do wonders for my morale. Only contribute if you can, though!

Interestingly, the judgment didn’t touch the Crown Law 2006 opinion. It relied on the disability grounds.

The High Court has granted an application for judicial review declaring unlawful regulations prohibiting new prescriptions of puberty blockers for children or adolescents with gender incongruence or gender dysphoria. sen.nz/dm1wkx

While we are focused on the election you should be aware Speak Up For Women Nz are taking Police & Customs to the High Court challenging the legality of New Zealand Police and Customs policies governing who may conduct strip searches. They are trying to get a For Women Scotland judgment here in NZ.

It’s quite clear this is a highly strategic legal action to get the same legal outcome that the For Women Scotland case got in the UK. They have a lot of legal hurdles to overcome though (I am not a lawyer!) The election outcome is highly important for trans rights though!!!!

The proceedings seek declarations concerning the interpretation of the Search and Surveillance Act 2012. They are arguing that Police and Customs guidelines unlawfully substitute gender identity and gender for biological sex when determining who must conduct a strip search.

I published a piece on The Conversation today on legislated nursing ratios. Results in decreased mortality, complications, readmission, length of stay, and burnout in nurses, and better job satisfaction. Savings cover twice the cost of extra nurses. #nzpol theconversation.com/nzs-nursing-...

theconversation.comNZ’s nursing squeeze is an election issue. Is it time for compulsory patient ratios?A new study linking lower nurse staffing on surgical wards with higher rates of post-operative deaths has raised urgent new questions about NZ’s settings.

Once again Dr Knight does an invaluable service and gives updates on Hoban V Attorney-General being heard today in the Supreme Court.

That’s a shockingly low undecided voter conversion rate for Luxon at 24% surprisingly high for Hipkins at 49% #nzpol

I would submit a counter-balancing op-ed but the NZ Herald doesn’t return my emails after Jim Grenon took charge!

Paul Thistoll@pault.bsky.social

Having been the Free Speech Union’s nemesis for a couple of years now, I can confirm everything Dane says in this op-ed is false and he is the king of disingenuousness! www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/nicky-hag...

Don’t forget that memories and recollections are OIA-able!!!

The Press@thepress.co.nz

More staff have alleged the Ministry of Education encouraged verbal communication to avoid creating OIA‑accessible records, prompting urgent intervention from the Chief Ombudsman.

This was Jim Hacker’s idea in “Yes, Prime Minister”!!!! Well, except his was compulsory military service. At least Luxon doesn’t go that far.

It’s my considered belief that TPU/FSU coordinated with National/ACT to get Rainbow and Derby appointed to the Human Rights Commission. I don’t have any proof though other than the fact the ACT Party Chief of Staff supported Rainbow’s application. But Hager’s insights makes it plausible.

People really misunderstand the sunk-cost fallacy. It’s rational to abandon sunk costs if you won’t get the appropriate payoff if you continue. But it’s also rational to point out the people/processes/thinking that led to the sunk costs and take appropriate action to avoid them happening again.

France has temporarily raised Champagne’s legal alcohol limit from 13% to 15% for the first time. Because the record temperatures this summer produced unusually sweet, ripe grapes. Champagne houses and insurers know human caused climate change is real!

Reproductive rights are human rights!

Terry Bellamak@tbellamak.bsky.social

With NZ First scraping the bottom of the candidate barrel, the abortion issue has not been left in the dead past. It's not dead. It's not even past. We need to be prepared to fight for reproductive rights. Again. #nzpol

I am going to die of old age waiting for labour to realise they need to inspire folks, that they need to be a brave progressive workers party on the left. Contesting an election based on being afraid of national criticising them didnt work last time, wont work this time.
