God, we need this in London. No more prioritising cars over people.

The most effective and influential urban transformations of any city in the world during Hidalgo’s term. “What’s most remarkable is the sheer volume of aggressive new policies @annehidalgo.bsky.social has managed to push through. Sunday’s mayoral election may determine the direction of her legacy.”

I've been using @kagi.com for about a month now and what I love is not suffering the endless attempts to trick me into buying tangentially related tat to my search. How novel! Plus the small web viewer is delightful. I am hoping Orion does come to Linux one day though...

I've become obsessed with SVGs and this guide is the best I've seen explaining how to use the <path> element

Josh W. Comeau@joshwcomeau.com

✨ I just published a brand-new post! It’s about the notorious SVG <path> element. With its compact Regex-style syntax, <path> can be super intimidating. But they’re also *incredibly* powerful, letting us draw (and animate!) curved lines. You can read it here, and I’ll share more info in thread. 🧵

#CSS #Tailwind experts, I need your help! I'm completely stumped about how to achieve this effect where the 'title' and the main content box share a border. Do I somehow need to clip the bottom of the title's border to hide it...? #buildinpublic

I've been trying to articulate why the fawning, complimentary responses from AI chatbots feel so insidious to me. I've finally figured out how to explain it. Wrote a long piece on how current model training and design choices threaten our critical thinking skills: maggieappleton.com/ai-enlighten...

I'm currently building a display for my 5-year-old so he has some clue what's happening. He often asks what day it is, what's happening, what's for dinner, etc. I'm hoping the display will help give him some agency, as being 5 seems confusing. It'll also trick him into reading...

The e-ink screen is a @pimoroni.com 7.3" Inky Impression display, and it's being powered by a #raspberrypi Zero 2 W. The toughest part by far was learning Pillow to build the UI. I was considering just using HTML, CSS, and JS, but sticking to Python for everything just makes sense.

I've built a script to get the day's info from our family Google Calendar, and next is testing, setting up cron jobs, and getting feedback from my son, who is probably never going to look at it, but I've had fun making it! #buildinpublic

@bmann.ca once told me "Self hosting is selfish", it struck a nerve and I instantly knew he was right. The priesthood of programmers cannot save the internet with our private gated co-los and suburban home servers. This is a beautiful synopsis of why: We're still thinking feudal terms.

My son and I are growing tomato plants from seeds. We put them out as they're no longer saplings and the final frost seems to have passed. Hopefully we'll have more tomatoes than we know what to do with. 🍅

I recently built a little web app for a bunch of us dads who go see films together but struggle to decide what we want to see. Built with Next.js, Better-Auth and the incredible The Movie Database API. Self-hosted on Digital Ocean running @coolify.io.

I love this.

Been annoyed by web fonts for a while. They’re big and they were connecting my blog to Google. I stumbled on modernfontstacks.com earlier today and now I’ve ditched my web fonts in favour of these. ~140kb shaved off the first load of my site. First impressions matter.

Spent the night setting up #Audiobookshelf on an old #RaspberryPi using a dodgy usb as extra storage and it was the most fun I've had in ages. Got all my audiobooks (and podcasts) out of their moated dungeons.
