This seems really obvious, everything to the contrary is an attempt at factional axe grinding

i think dooming right now makes absolutely no sense. That this is coming out now is a massive relief and the best possible scenario and assuming Platner drops (incredibly likely) dem chances of winning the seat are higher than they would have been if platner had no further scandals

This is fair — anti-semitism was trending back up as a reactionary harbinger of the backlash to the woke era. These things come in cycles and social media has fueled it. BUT it was supercharged by our political system’s reaction to Oct 7 and Gaza events, where we rake stepped into every trope

Will Stancil@whstancil.bsky.social

My suspicion is that Instagram is far more responsible for the upsurge in antisemitism than Israeli war crimes in Gaza. Frankly a lot of the daily antisemitism I’ve encountered has nothing to do with Gaza, just jokes about Jews and money, Jews controlling everything, etc.

Starting to wonder if there’s some Senate-like shenanigans going on here, wherein they knew they had to throw out the opinion but some of the swing votes were given a dispensation to dissent in order to appease Leonard Leo and their sponsors.

BREAKING: The Supreme Court holds that the Fourteenth Amendment protects birthright citizenship, blocking Donald Trump's executive order to end it. Roberts has the opinion for the court, which is 5-4 on the constitutional question and 6-3 on whether federal law protects birthright citizenship.

People signing up for insurance and then not using it is pretty much what you want in any insurance market… right? Like, covered people not needing care is good!

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Dr Oz on ACA "fraud" -- "Of the people who signed up, 40% never use the insurance. Let me ask you, John, you have health insurance -- do you use it once a year? In Obamacare right now 40% of the people ostensibly signed up never use the insurance ... we have a lot of fake people on the policies"

I do not understand how one candidate (Chevalier) can win one primary election and it just redefines what the future of the Democratic Party is for everyone. The discourse around all of this has been insane. We are not back in 2019 because of one election.

It’s nuts that Fox News has leaned into this with their entire brand even though it’s just a complete abject failure. It truly is one of the most pathetic displays I’ve ever seen

So I’ve arrived at more of a labor-based populism. The economy is badly out of balance and liberal institutions have basically abandoned working class interests — or at minimum, lost all credibility with the working class. We’re basically in a second gilded age.

The solution to this is probably a mix of political reform, some abundance-style technocracy that can reduce material scarcity, and populist wealth redistribution from the ultra rich.

The Davos consensus has sort of become Dubai at this point. I think Trump/Crypto/Tech have basically killed true liberalism by revealing that most of the Davos establishment liberal elite never really believed in any principled version of it — it’s all corruption and greed.

The corporate social responsibility stuff was all just a political smokescreen at the end of the day that they were happy to throw under the bus as soon as it became financially and politically expedient. Trump clocked these people accurately, he knew they would kneel to power in an instant

I say this with no ill will or animosity: if you hate the Democratic Party, then please don’t run for our nomination. Don’t use our resources. Don’t rely on our volunteers. Don’t use our infrastructure. Don’t ask Democrats to invest their time, money, and energy in your campaign.

The waste of taxpayer money involved in this debacle is something I would make an issue of if I was David Jolly. You can make an exclusively anti-corruption argument to the center while also motivating the base. Go after it as a boondoggle

TBH I feel like Mamdani has bent over backwards to demonstrate that he's not remotely antisemitic, and guys like Frum who will call him an antisemite anyway on the basis of his religion and anti-Zionism are doing the work of bona fide antisemites

I hate this guy so much

I think all the results in the NY primaries are hopeful signs that voters are demanding a party that’s more responsive to their needs and aspirations. That’s going to look different in different places. It’s not always going to look like NY. But it’s good for democracy regardless.

I’m not a fan of Chevalier and I hate that we are going to get a whole week of “is this what it means to be a Democrat now?” But also: it’s going to make the party elites more responsive to voters in general, and that’s worth it

If you believe in democracy, you should… actually like it. Not just as a thing to hand wring over Trump on. When voters get engaged and they make choices, that’s a healthy thing for our politics, because it makes the system more responsive.

She’s incredibly out of step with the moment. This entire interview (on Fox News!) was an abject disaster for her. She had a good few weeks where she was able to avoid any scrutiny and let the race be a referendum on Platner. That’s completely unsustainable and we are seeing why.

His ability to lie so shamelessly with such ease is a super power that truly is sui generis even for a politician

Trump: “Work will begin immediately on fixing the seriously vandalized Reflecting Pool. I just inspected it, and could only say to myself, and those gathered around me, WOW, who would do such a thing? SICK, DERANGED PEOPLE! We will fix it? President DJT”

This is the message. I know people call this “slopulism” here because highly educated people love to tout how complex everything is, but this is a powerful progressive message that also happens to be true!

Graham Platner for Senate@grahamformaine.bsky.social

The real problem isn't immigrants or trans kids. It's the Epstein class rigging the system and getting rich doing it.

If progressives don’t harness the cynicism people have about corporations and elite institutions, the right will. It is unfortunate that most Dems cannot deliver this message because they’re too compromised by corporate interests to credibility deliver it, or that they simply don’t believe it.

This is his leadership PAC and is therefore entirely legal— this isn’t a Gallego scandal, it’s a scandal that belongs to the entire system

The people who called libs snowflakes for a decade are now posting about how they have a “right” to “not feel” a certain way.

Jared Holt@jaredlholt.bsky.social

Pretty rich stuff from Rep. Brandon Gill considering he’s a carpetbagger in his district — which he oddly never seems to find time to talk about — and only has that congressional seat because his father in law is Dinesh D’Souza, a first generation immigrant.

Of course feeling like a stranger in your own country because taco trucks exist is also pathological, but set that aside — you do not have the *right* to never feel uncomfortable! This is a core tenet of what used to be conservative ideology

Again, we don’t have any credibility on these threats at all. None. The Iranians just absolutely dusted us, they are probably laughing at this.

He literally just lost a war to these guys and is right back to talking about how he’s going to “take over” the strait.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

"President Trump told Fox News the US may take over the strait in the future if they have to & collect tolls. The president described this as the US being the guardian angel of the Strait of Hormuz & Middle East. He said that would involve the US taking 20% of the oil that passes through the strait"

Hate the new World Cup tiebreaker format. In Group D —due to the head to head tie breaker — one matchday 3 match will be meaningless and the other sets up for a gentleman’s handshake tie. It’s bad for the spirit of the competition

Vance is basically right wing woke personified

DOUTHAT: Let's be honest -- the tone of the administration is not consistently a Christian tone. There is a tone of aggressive uncharity JD VANCE: Tonal arguments are ways of, frankly, policing working class ways of communication, and covering them in elite preferences

The media will be painting him as anti-Iran War again within a month. He’s the most effective gaslighter in the history of mankind. Not just politically speaking— I mean the entire species.

Why are seemingly all of Susan Collins's campaign testimonials from professional Republicans (in this case a former GOP state representative) who don't identify themselves as such? It's sketchy but it also feels desperate. And sort of pathetic. #MEpolitics
