One thing to riff on here that Andrew gets in toward the end: somehow when people compute the cost of a war, they never want to include the cost of caring for the veterans for the rest of their lives. If you're not planning for that, don't tell me how you "love our warfighters".

Also said, "You always pay too much. Particularly for promises. There ain’t no such thing as a bargain promise."

Submitted for your consideration, the answer to what to choose for your Sunday Lent Feast Day binge.

I submit for the committee's approval: glazed donuts filled with cream cheese icing and topped with smoked brisket and candied jalapenos

Is there an organized authoritative voice to invite the medical community to raise a loud voice to object to this ignorance?

Dinsdale Piranha@getoffmylawn58.bsky.social

All entirely preventable. Fuck you antivaxxers. Your malicious ignorance is killing people.

I think this is probably very good advice! (Of course, I think it also means we are probably really really screwed, but still, probably very good advice.)

This post is really taking off. I know the Thanksgiving detail is grabbing, but I would encourage everyone to also read the full article about this family’s struggle at Dilley. They’ve been locked up for 130+ days. I spent hours with them on Zoom this week, and their story deserves to be heard.

nbcnews.com'Even in Russia, they don't treat children like this': A family's nightmare in ICE detentionA Russian couple and their children sought asylum in the U.S. In a Texas detention center, they say they endured worms in the food and hourslong waits for medicine.

Calls to split the DHS funding from the current 6-bill minibus aren’t calls for a shutdown. The other 5 bills+ the already enacted bills provide 95%+ of total discretionary $. The other 5 bills have solid bipartisan support in both houses & should move on their own.

A reminder to the news media: “conflicting accounts” is what you say BEFORE the incontrovertible video evidence appears. After that, your job is to ask why one side is lying, not to repeat the lie and pretend no one knows the truth.

After the local radio noon news I took a digestible bite of Eric Erickson. Those of you who predicted yesterday that Noem and Bovino were about to be thrown under the bus by the admin that chartered that bus in the first place, have been proven correct.

Judges working overtime:

Suffice it to say, it is unusual for judges to issue this many opinions on a Sunday. Judge Tostrud rules another ICE detention illegal here: storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...

The killing of Alex Pretti is a heartbreaking tragedy. It should also be a wake-up call to every American, regardless of party, that many of our core values as a nation are increasingly under assault.
