It's overdue, and probably doomed, and I'm too old, and I don't care anymore. (he/him)

TPU ads running in front of autoplay videos on NZME website - which are again AI generated Hipkins - REALLY feels like it shouldn't be allowed. Media can't keep getting away with claiming "objectivity" for verbatim reporting PR lines, or refusing to attack the rightwing, while this incentive exists

Peter Green reposted

RNZ asking the Sensible Sentencing Trust and TPU for comment on the new attack billboards is yet more evidence they learned nothing from Dirty Work. These are bad-faith PR orgs and RNZ is willfully running cover for them.

It's really important to pay attention to the fact that Lula beat the fascist candidate not by compromising and trying to meet fascist voters in the middle, but by sticking to his guns, promising prosecutions for election interference, and mobilising his own voters to turn out in greater numbers.

you guys i’m starting to think that gang and crime discourse is just a way for the right wing to launder fear and racism through the dominant centre-right media whilst maintaining a facade of respectability.

So, effectively we're hosting a US military base - a big fat target for someone else's missiles - and we don't get visibility over what is done from our soil. Fuck that. Kick the yanks out.

When political scientists first raised concerns about this new restriction last year we were told we were being ‘alarmist’ to suggest tilting the playing field unfairly like this by one party can undermine the legitimacy of the election out come for all Kiwis in a tight race I’m still ‘alarmed’…

Last day! NZ National restricted general roll voting regulations for the first time in 40 yrs To reporters please don’t repeat spin- the change won’t speed up counting - And let’s not shrug & say just 2% fewer voters enrolled It’s 300,000 NZers prevented from voting That’s an entire NZ town

The passive voice here is a choice, just like choosing how to engage in a debate. It’s amoral to think a nuanced debate is impossible when you refuse to contribute anything yourself except savvy cynicism.

Harrowing but very good piece that puts all the current political and media nonsense in context. Deals with the systematic failure of NZ govt and society to address institutional abuse in care. Tim Jago, Aussie Malcom, etc can be understood in this context. Horrible. newsroom.co.nz/2026/10/25/a...

newsroom.co.nzAaron Smale: The Silencing ContinuesInvestigative journalist Aaron Smale says the political posturing over photos with gangs is ignorant, hypocritical, and amounts to gangster chic for Instagram

so now we're going to have 2 weeks of media pressure on ACT Party associations with a convicted pedophile right? Because Seymour has openly lied about this for years, and this is pretty good evidence that he was being dishonest

kyle@kyledchurch.bsky.social

Given that previous justifications for lack of coverage of David Seymour's association to Tim Jago rested on Seymour's claim that he didn't know Jago very well, this should immediately ring alarm bells and have journalists asking some serious questions

And last one so I stop spamming y'all: Winston Peters contributed to a Black Power owned newspaper Te Iwi o Aotearoa His were: March 1988: “The Future of Employment in Aotearoa” May 1988: “Education — The Key to Race Relations” July 1989: An analysis of the government's Treaty principles. #nzpol

This one he wasn't even mistaken. In his own words Mark Mitchell met literal gang members. #nzpol

The treatment of Kerrin Leoni reminds me of how Helen Clark misread her dealings with Tariana Turia, humiliating her publicly. And that, as I recall, led to the formation of Te Pati Maori. It seems Hipkins did not learn from that.

I don’t know if you will have noticed this. In the midst of an absolute crisis in every level of our health system, the Green Party announced a policy to massively boost funding to Health with a $30Bn investment over four years.

💯 but also - take a look at the Tāmaki Makaurau results for a snapshot of the likely bias in these numbers - 17.5% of Māori (per Te Whata, 2023 census) own their home in Auckland, one of the polling items - but 43% in the poll said they did. This is where the bias is in the poll

one of the ways for Hipkins to take the heat off Labour would be to do a big 'stand up' announcement and go after ACT and Seymour on how Jago was covered up, and that the entire National coalition is invested in protecting powerful pedophiles and their supporters

David Clegg@delphijunkie.bsky.social

I take it the media pushed back asking about the pedophile from the ACT Party that Seymour helped to shield from voters in the lead up to the last election, right? RIGHT?

Peter Green reposted

I do want to be clear, Hipkins' garbage-tier instincts aside, this whole thing is *predominantly* an overtly racist dirty politics campaign that has the rightwing coalition parties effectively coordinating with all major media outlets to try and ensure there is no change of government

Peter Green reposted

every single major outlet with multiple reporters and newsrooms OIAing and muckraking about gangs for 2 weeks straight: "we simply don't have the *resources* to investigate the association between Seymour and Jago *which has been publicly available on social media*"

Uh... almost certainly not. But we're going to play this game, perhaps we wouldn't have Clarence Thomas on the Supreme Court if Judiciary Committee chair Joseph Robinette Biden hadn't enabled the public slut-shaming of Anita Hill. Which he still refuses to apologise to Hill for.

It has been so long since my last pūtangitangi baby upload that they've started getting new feathers! Soon to be 3 months now? They grow up so fast. Look at how big their legs already are! Featuring a very nosy and photogenic donkey gelding.

Funny that "get a real job" doesn't extend to people like Jordan Williams and Bob McCoskrie. That wouldn't be punching down.
