A wrong lesson to take from the Brazilian elections is that voting can defeat fascism. That's not true at all. Democracy is an incredibly frail system and the US almost took over the country through it. ORGANIZED PEOPLE DEFEATED FASCISM

It's another day, so let's talk about this. First of all, Lula didn't win the election alone. He won because more than half of the country FREAKED THE FUCK OUT and built a popular movement that organized several actions both irl and online.

With 83% of the vote counted nationwide, Lula has stretched his lead to 2.8 million votes. That's a lead of 51.4% to 48.6%. That puts him on track for a victory that could be larger than his 1.8% win four years ago, which would be an immense comeback. He's even up in Minas Gervais now, by 0.6%.

Brazil extended voting hours in lieu of the attempts at voter suppression seen today. We'll know the results soon enough. I hope for all our sakes Lula wins.

Brazilian Supreme Court Justice Cristiano Zanin ordered a nationwide two-hour extension of voting in today’s presidential runoff, moving the close of polls from 5pm to 7 pm Brasília time.

Security through obscurity is a terrible principle but in practice a lot of things didn't get hacked bc people ignored them, or didn't know they existed, or just generally got missed. AI makes it easy to probe all of these things at scale + makes it easier to find/develop exploits

this is a neat little addition!

the idea phase is the easiest and least valuable part of professional creativity. read the first draft of the first Star Wars if you doubt me Great art is made in the grinding, often miserable collision between the ethereal substance of an idea and the mud and blood and friction of reality

"Updating is the only safe choice" As PHP releases the details of its critical vulnerabilities, governments around the world are taking their websites offline for updates. Security researchers warn things could be real bad if systems aren't patched immediately Story with @lhn.bsky.social

wired.com‘This Is Not A Drill’: Critical PHP Vulnerabilities Are Setting the Internet on FireThe PHP Foundation has revealed two serious vulnerabilities that could impact millions of websites. Security experts warn that failure to quickly patch the flaws could have dire consequences.

(if you don't know what php is, there's nothing you need to do. If you're self hosting a php site, uh, maybe take that offline until the patch is out?)

I’m ok. Make no mistake: this is an attempt to target political enemies and weaponize federal law enforcement. For ten years, Trump has targeted me with baseless lies and smear campaigns. This is just the latest escalation in his campaign of political intimidation. I will not be silenced.
