The first Gen AI ad I saw that showed a use case scenario was a person had to read a screenplay and then didn't, so they trick the person they're meant to do this for into thinking they did. The entire purpose of this technology is to trick people and it turns out no one likes being tricked.

The first genuinely honest ad for generative AI I've ever seen, from Microsoft / CoPilot A mediocre white guy sees his non-white colleague getting praised for good work, he asks AI to *literally copy it*, and then he gets all the praise instead: www.ispot.tv/ad/SoDi/micr...

I've never liked bullies. Instead of engaging with them at their level, I prefer to deconstruct and highlight the weakness of their arguments. Just did that with the recent "Don't be a Loser" line from DHH, and here it is. #bealoser makemeacto.cc/be-a-loser/

makemeacto.ccBe a loserDHH's keynote at Rails World 2026 ended with a warning for all software engineers "Don't be a loser". Here's a warning about listening to people like him without turning on your brain.

As I've got momentum building up in the shop, I decided this work deserves the official label of "Fuck Big Tech" collection. #2 in the series is titled "Sovereign Cloud". Worked on it during the weekend, it went up in my daughter's bedroom last night. She promised she'll tidy up her desk next

I've recently learned of a company that has what I called Schrödinger's meetings. People do not accept or reject meeting invites, and you'll only figure out who attends when the meeting starts. And of course all of the company's attention is going into pushing AI adoption to improve productivity.

Actress Susan Sarandon being arrested earlier today for protesting Benjamin Netanyahu’s speech at the United Nations. One is speaking out against genocide, one is committing it. One was arrested, one was not.

“why are all the ai ceos all of a sudden saying this weird thing?” burning man was last week and this may actually just be the explanation

One of the best things of summer is being mostly offline. Another one is reading tons of books! Here's the review of the books I read in July and August, including a couple from @doctorow.pluralistic.net and the great one by Sarah Winn-Williams. makemeacto.cc/books-i-read... #booksky

makemeacto.cc📚 Books I Read in July and August 2026Back from a long break with a long list of summer reads. Two highlights, one of which comes with some caveats. Also, a great biography, more vibe writing and a bunch of sci-fi reading because why not?

"AGI has been achieved" is a self-fulfilling prophecy. If enough media and people believe the statement, it's an indicator that human intelligence has declined to the point that it's actually *below* what advanced LLMs can "display". "achieved" by lowering the threshold and making people dumber.

Looks like we’re using Gitmo to imprison immigrants again. This is an ICE charter airline owned by ICE’s flight broker using the callsign they use for all their ICE flights.

Extremely subjective and uninformed take here but I reckon people becoming addicted to genAI has created a very significant increase in just total cognitive shutdown moments. You know when someone hears something they're avoiding engaging with and they become one of those startled paralysed goats

When I see news media proudly showing "AI-generated" reconstructions of the disaster in Nepal (caused by climate change), I can't help but wonder if we might not after all deserve extinction. Wonder where human decency has disappeared. Why not throw some cigarette butts in the forest while at it?

If Jensen Huang has time to attend a $1 million-a-head dinner at Mar-a-Lago and fly across the world to meet with President Xi Jinping, he can find time to testify in front of Congress about reports that NVIDIA technology is powering Russia’s war machine.

Lots of "ethics aside" people announcing their conscientious boycotts of Codeberg in my feed today, like I didn't have plenty of reasons to love Codeberg already.

OpenAI is doing this because Mythos got airtime thanks to the media that does press-release-as-aservice. So now, as one security engineer put it, “something which would have been an embarrassment ten years ago is now repackaged as a capability demo, a heroic AI-vs-AI story and a marketing pitch"

It's totally unprecedented, nothing like the same marketing hype cycle Anthropic did around their model "going rogue" and "breaching containment" recently. Not like that at all

What I loved the most about the #worldcup Spain (Pedro Sanchez), beating Argentina (Milei) in the USA (Trump's feud), by leveraging the power of the collective over egocentric individuals. There's hope for the future

> If Mary Shelley were alive today, she'd probably write a book titled "Frank-Epstein". Except this one won't be science fiction but investigative journalism. I'm particularly proud of that sentence I came up with for my latest article. Should I feel bad? makemeacto.cc/how-exactly-...

makemeacto.ccHow exactly is doing more AI going to make it better?A reaction to two recent popular articles by Charity Majors. Is AI a big deal? Is resistance to AI fundamentalism? Does the solution to the current problems emerge from doing more of it?

I'll summarize this: Mamdani asked NYers to keep air conditioning at 78 degrees. A wave criticism hit online. A MSNBC broadcast pointed out the US Department of Energy recommends that 78 degree figure. Immediately after, the US Department of Energy deleted 6,000 web pages related to energy saving.

Company: "I have AI FOMO!" Accenture: "Here's a bunch of expensive slides on how to drive AI adoption." Company: "I'm spending too much on tokens!" Accenture: "Here's a bunch of slides on how to curb token usage." Instead of AI replacing big consultancy firms, it's the new cash cow.

When Anthropic steals from Authors, Artists, Creators, it's "fair use". When Alibaba does the same to Anthropic, "they benefit from American investments without bearing the costs and risks associated with training advanced AI models." Such clowns. forklog.com/en/anthropic...

After completing the transition to Ghost, I've finally published issue 3 of the Something Big Is Happening series. To celebrate the move, this issue is available to everyone for free! It covers AI and SWE, OSS projects, AI enshittification and fossil fuel investments. rush.mn/x9hVGL

Significant increase (..almost ~50% 🤯) in cumulative generation from coal in the latest ISP. FY27 projection is a mere ~27%~ higher than where we thought we would be in 2024 ISP 🥲.

To those who changed the notification sound in Google Meet. Please don't. First the icons, now this. What metrics are you trying to move exactly by confusing people? Oh, right, the only metric Google is looking at is AI usage these days. Everything else is cosmetic.

I've said this before and it's a good day to say it again: media outlets have horny male editors and horny male photographers who want to snap creep pics of women in skimpy outfits, and that is a big part of why they illustrate a deadly event with this type of stuff
