We won not only against Bolsonaro, but against the full force of the USian's Big Techs, Meta, CIA, Trump, the Brazilian right-wing elites, the billionaires' press and more.

"What if, instead of telling a story about how our species fell from some idyllic state of equality, we ask how we came to be trapped in such tight conceptual shackles that we can no longer even imagine the possibility of reinventing ourselves?" - David Graeber

This was true during the fight to abolish slavery in the 19th century, it was true during the civil rights movement of the 20th century, and it's true today. Spirituality has always been the beating heart of movements fighting for social and economic justice.

James Talarico: We are living in an era of corruption. I don’t just mean illegal activity. I mean corruption in the deeper sense — the rotting of something from the inside. This is, at its root, a spiritual crisis. And it will require a spiritual solution.

This is what religious pluralism looks like in practice. May Mamdani's example inspire all of us on the left to embrace an inclusive spiritual politics.

As we usher in the new year, let us carry forward the call of Guru Gobind Singh Ji to stand up to injustice as we build a city that works for every New Yorker. Happy Vaisakhi, and may your days be filled with hope and the renewal of spring!

New Atheist figures like Sam Harris fought like hell to make a war with Iran a reality. Harris' "thought experiments" justifying a nuclear first-strike on Iran served to provide a pseudo-intellectual cover for a genocidal war of aggression.

In his book "Against the Web", the late Michael Brooks skewers Harris on this subject. "A fair reading of the context makes it very clear that Harris’ discussion of nuclear genocide is not a thought experiment in any meaningful sense. He’s describing something he thinks may actually happen.”

More from Brooks: “Harris just can’t bring himself to acknowledge that US intentions could be less than noble. If American bombs kill a lot of civilians, that must be because the country is acting for a good reason and, unfortunately, technology hasn’t produced more precise military instruments."
