An unmentioned part is that there are basically no more utility grade Transformer rewinding shops left in North America. If you blow a 500kV transformer it's either getting into a 15 year queue or calling out the OEM to literally build a semi permanent shelter around it for artisanal maintenance.

No element of national power will be spared from idiocracy

$23b for 1st ship. More expensive than the Ford class or the Columbia class. Far less capable than either. Only slightly more capable than the Ticos, at 10x the cost. Could buy at least 4 Block V Virginias & get twice as many CPS cells. Railgun is stuck in development hell. A truly colossal waste.

What's great is that the next time you are asked about the difference between tactics and strategy, Epic Fail will be the standard.

What’s the name of this organization? We call it the Department of War And the head of that department is? The Secretary of War And the workers in this organization? Warfighters And these people are fighting a war. Oh no. My goodness no.

All this talk about strengthening the atrophy in the shipbuilding industrial followed by cancelation of major shipbuilding programs that are sustaining whatever dwindling number of shipyards the US has left.

Laser technical? Laser technical.

TRW report on the APACHE laser: apps.dtic.mil/sti/tr/pdf/A... It combined the chemical laser technology from the ALPHA program with "nonlinear optical phase conjugation using stimulated Brillouin scattering" to create near-diffraction-limited quality beams for a space-based platform.

An interesting (& resonant) overview of the causes of great power decline from the 17th century-in this instance from the famed Duke of Sully when asked by Henri IV to pen a short memo enumerating "all the things by which I thought the glory of a powerful kingdom might be destroyed or sullied,"(1/6)

The demise of the tri-service designation system is the clearest indication of our march to idiocracy
