Also, everyone asserting that a particular book or author you loved as a kid "holds up": nice you think so, now let's go ask an actual kid from today

๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ’™ For my reading goal this year I set out to not only read more than last year, I also wanted to read more styles/genres outside of my comfort zone. Here are some of the standout books or series that I read this year in no particular order.

The Sun Eater Series by Christopher Ruocchio 100/10 Gang, I cannot stress enough how good this series is. Highkey this might be my favorite book series of all time. The best way to explain this series is that its a space opera with the bones of an epic fantasy (NOT in the way that star wars is.)

Cont'd. I don't know how Ruocchio had the balls to navigate the highs and lows that this story contains. Because holy cow does it have some lows. It had so many moments that felt bleak and hopeless but it also had moments of true hope. I could write so much about this series but i rather you read it

All of the Stormlight Archives books plus Novellas in order. (Not Book #5 yet) by Brandon Sanderson These were rereads and I found so many more easter eggs that I missed the first time around. There isn't much to say about them that hasn't been said already. They are all good and really fun. 10/10

"Regia Occulta/Xenos" by Dan Abnett I wanted to finally explore Warhammer and this didn't disappoint. The last half of Xenos is batshit insane. The whole story is crazy and I desperately need to finish the Eisenhorn Series. 9/10

"A Court of Thorns and Roses" by Sarah J. Maas I have no idea. Every notion I had about this book was that it was just "romantasy". But I felt like it had some cool and brutal fights, as well as fun magic. It was not the horny fae romance I thought it was going to be. 8/10

The Dresden Files #1 & #2 by Jim Butcher I really liked "Storm Front" #1. Witty one-liners, unexplained gutter magic, vampires, Chicago mobsters, and fantasy noire detective mysteries. I truly could not ask for more. "Fool Moon" #2 on the other hand, did not hook me like the first book...

The Raven's Shadow Trilogy by Anthony Ryan "Blood Song" #1 is such a good book with so many cool premises. It was interesting, it was filled with action and conflict. I dont understand how this story fell apart over the course of the trilogy...

"Isolate" by L. E. Modesitt Jr. This was one of those types of genres that I haven't really explored. I was interested to see how I would like political intrigue not in a film or movie. I can easily say that this did not disappoint and I need to return to the trilogy. 8/10

"Kings of the Wyld" by Nicholas Eames I think this was the most fun I have ever had reading a story. If you like DnD this is the book for you. The premise is simply getting the gang back together after they have retired for one more adventure. Then they can go back to the lives they built. 10/10

Iโ€™ve been on Bluesky for a while now and Iโ€™m glad a lot of new people are coming over from X, and if I had one tip for them it would be to get used to seeing drawings of beefy animals with dicks the size of Stanley tumblers.

I may have set my reading goal too low for the year. I only did 15 books last year but I did most of them in a 4 month span. So I bumped it up to 30 books for 2024. And currently I'm at 10 and it's only been 2 months. I'm not gonna stop at 30 that's for sure but I think I'm gonna a blow past my goal

So I never actually started this book back then but I did start it this week and finished it. It was a pretty good fantasy political intrigue book by L. E. Modesitt called Isolate. I'm usually a fantasy action/adventure type of guy but I found this book fascinating.

If a fantasy book starts with a list of the major characters in the story. You better strap in and strap on, cause this shits gonna have a lot of names.

I've now read 12 total discworld books. Here are the ones I've read. Going postal Making money Guards! Guards! Men at Arms Feet of Clay Jingo The Fifth Elephant Night Watch Thud! Snuff Mort Reaper Man This is not a ranking of them but as you can see the Watch series absolutely took hold of me.

Well as of today I've read 4 discworld books in 2 weeks. Here is my ranking of those 4 1. Men at Arms 2. Reaper Man 3. Guards! Guards! 4. Mort You can follow me on Goodreads as well btw Goodreads.com/timwilltell

The Watch novels are particularly interesting to me because being able to watch Vimes go from a cynical man, with little to live for, to someone that has had his world-view challenged and morphed until he came out the other side exited for his future, his family's future, and the city's future.

The character progression of a lot of the different characters through the story of The Watch is one of growth and change and acceptance of all. Colon often at the beginning of a novel has a particular bias/prejudice against wossnames and by the end he understands that they are just like him.
