This October Alberta will decide if it wants to start the breakup of Canada. The American govt and its far-right media will pour hours of airtime and billions of dollars to push separatism this fall.

Hey... just checking - there's no historical precedent in which a fascistic and brazenly racist government goes after abstract and modernist art while rounding up and expelling undesirables, right?
@charlieangus104.bsky.social How can this person be allowed to attend a ceremony celebrating people coming together after all that he has done to Canada? HE SHOULD NOT BE A WELCOMED DIGNITARY!!!
unfortunate but true - a nonzero amount of the time, canadians shooting their mouths off about trump straight up do not give even a fraction of a fuck about the vulnerable people trump is hurting, because in a different context they'd be his fucking base.
Sure man. I just wanted to clarify the nature of your contempt for my neighbors' sacrifices, since sometimes such sentiments come from people who can be redirected to useful work. in your case unfortunately it just seems to be solipsism with a pretty big helping of racism - unfortunate.
One thing that has amazed me with American BSky is how much the US admin keeps wishing for the destruction of Canada, and yet I keep getting told how it's hysterical to think that's the intent.
Lutnick pushes fracturing of Canada: "This is about the Liberal Party & Carney trying to use a kerfuffle w/ the US to gai leverage. They've got the sovereign party vote in Quebec on Oct 5. They've got an independence vote that starts the process of Alberta, who always feels ripped off by Ottawa... "
Choosing to vacation in America during a trade war should be disqualifying for a Canadian politician right now -- especially one purporting to fight for Canada and against the separatists running her own party.
And yet. #cdnpoli#abpoli
"we should rename Mar-a-Lago something funny, make Google display that"
My brother in Christ, the Ontario legislature can declare Google's workers in Ontario to be unionized and assign their collective labour rights to whichever union will be most militant, think bigger

“Public Interest Alberta is joining the federalist forces with the launch of a campaign to vote to remain in Canada, as well as say ‘no’ to the remaining nine referendum questions.”

They have every intention of rigging this election and trying to steal it
And these are the same people who spent a decade falsely claiming elections are rigged
It's the biggest, longest con in U.S. political history, and the whole country is its victim
I’m saying there’s indications they are going to try this, and that if they did there would probably not be any meaningful resistance for the most part.

American-Canadian here. This damage is likely permanent. Anyone who wants the US to regain Canada’s friendship needs to start advocating for massive unilateral concessions by a future US government.
Americans really don’t understand how evil Canadians view this rhetoric. We think it’s just “Trump being Trump” and trolling for lulz, but Lutnick here is threatening the sovereignty of our closest ally and biggest trading partner.
This is a catastrophe, not easily remedied.

Canada has declared its independence from a dying empire. This is an important discussion with Stephen Marche host of the Gloves Off Podcast.
Canada has openly defied a reckless regime and we aren't going back. But the collapse of the American order presents serious risk.

In fairness, the conclusion does repudiate the concept of Fortress North America and places the blame on the Trump administration's rhetoric and policies. But I think it misses the fact that for Canada and Mexico, this fight is now the one that really matters, with China a very distant second.
Republicans who see Canada as an enemy has leapt up this year, similar to how Republicans’ approval of Putin shot up in 2016.
Virtually no anti-Canada US constituency before this year, and virtually no pro-Putin constituency before 2016.
Out of nowhere. Now millions say that’s their position.
NEW Economist/YouGov Aug 28-31: Canada
38% of Republicans view Canada as unfriendly or an enemy of the U.S., by far the highest level in the past decade

I'd say the GOP have won supermajorities this November.
Americans, how does it feel to be as autocratic as Russia? You are just an extension of Trump's will, and Canada will see you as such.
reminder: the explicit USPS rule (*currently blocked in court*) is that USPS will not deliver *any and all* mail ballots to voters in states that refuse to provide the fed gov with lists
(lists that, even if they wanted, states can't do in time at this point)
not technicalities — mass non-delivery

This is 🍁REALLY GOOD 🍁
We all have our favourite #BuyCanadian website. This one brings information from many of them together, giving you more Canadian product data in one place.
Brilliant idea! Simple, elegant, filterable and easy to use.
Technically speaking, very well designed!

The most generous possible reading I can give is that you have to start rebuilding trust on the world stage by making up with your immediate neighbours.
But I do think that essentially means revolutionary defeatism from a US perspective.
As the Pentagon loses a war to a third world autocracy Pete Hegseth is trolling teenage Canadian cadets.
How much more debased does it get?
Canadians are proud of our cadets, rangers and soldiers.
We remain true, north, strong, free.

This means every blue state and blue precinct is tossup at worst for the GOP.
Trump is getting his supermajorities in Congress and in 2/3s of states so he can pass constitutional amendments.
