In the spirit of promoting more Canadian mili thought and history, some book recommendations! First up, this one (surprisingly available in the UK too)! An examination of a Canadian victory which I believe has more lessons to teach than Vimy Ridge- covering everything from staff work to logistics.

No you know what I'm still mad about this, fuck you, you utter plague of rancid fats, I'm gonna learn MORE about this to tell you to go fuck yourself with an electron microscope let's learn about some Arabic contributors to science that won THE EXACT AWARDS he mentioned

Having finished Innocence and started Requiem, I highly recommend both games so far. As is often the case for middle-market titles like this, Innocence sets up concepts that Requiem has been able to build on in excellent ways. Most importantly, the medieval post-apocalypse vibes are much improved.

I bought A Plague Tale: Innocence expecting a quasi walking simulator type deal, sort of in the vein of Ico, only to realize that it is actually straight up a zombie (well, nightmarish borderline supernatural rat plague apocalypse story transposed onto a medieval France backdrop. And it rocks.

All of this is underpinned by great VA work. I miss the cast from Innocence (especially reverting to British accents rather than at least attempting French ones) but they are much better directed and able to convey disgust, fear and rage which gives survival and combat a lot more of an edge.

This meshes pretty well with the game focusing a lot more on Amicia being willing to dish out violence and fight dirty. Bashing heads in with rocks (with her sling or manually), using rat swarms to her advantage, she is beginning to bring to mind Joel or the Tomb Raider reboot's Lara, in a good way.

The rats feel even more disgusting and unnerving. Innocence struggled with 5,000 onscreen at once - this game likely doubles or triples that, and the swarms behave in a far more lifelike way. It's on par IMO with TLOU's cordyceps as this unnerving and seemingly unstoppable force.

I see RFK's been reading Armies Of Sand. For Christ's sake keep him out of the West Point library before he finds Why Arabs Lose Wars.

RFK: "There's five hundred million Arabs in the world. And yet they don't produce science. They don't win the Nobel Prize. They don't win the Fields Prize. They don't win the Wolf Prize. They don't produce literature."

Its not just about social media mobilization but party politics. The centre-right was vaporized by Bolsonarism's extreme right. The most important turnaround was in Sao Paulo and in Rio de Janeiro states. Here, old school politics by Lula's VP and former SP governor) Alckmin was important.

If anything comes of this, it may well be the most impactful policy of Carney's entire tenure as PM. Few things could be more transformative for the constitutional order than a new law to supplant the Indian Act as the basis for the relationship between the Canadian government and the First Nations.

It's well-documented that the president maintained a years-long friendship with the world's most notorious child sex trafficker. It might strike you as odd there aren't direct allegations of Trump engaging in child sex trafficking.. except there are. There are SO MANY. They just never get reported!

Not even 5% of votes have been counted. Let’s calm down…it will be a long night especially after so much voter suppression in Salvador, São Paulo and other Lula-supporting areas.

A bunch of Bolsonaro government people tried to rig the vote by among other things cutting off public transport. However the electoral Court responded by extending voting hours. Early results say it will be close but the few completed municipalities are in line with a Lula win!

We are watching a coup d’état attempt unfold in real time in Brazil. I’m consumed by desperation.

While I don't think the good Dr. Devereaux (or any medievalist) would call it the... Most accurate possible depiction, it's an undeniably unique setting that makes a lot of 'postapocalyptic' tropes (finding a new base, forming a ragtag group of survivors, etc.) feel pretty fresh.

Most importantly, despite a bit of rough voice acting work in places (which does improve), the game and characters have managed to grow on me. I'm invested in seeing how this all shakes out and excited to move on to Requiem once I finish Innocence.

Vucic concedes defeat. The true scale of the Student List victory remains to be seen — but this a political earthquake for the Western Balkans. Sincere congratulations to the citizens of Serbia who held out hope against hope and mobilized in extraordinary numbers.

I do not at foreclose the possibility of various sorts of political shenanigans even after Vucic’s concession but this extraordinary result in Serbia is what happens when people show up: in the streets, at the ballot box. That’s the lesson. If you care about democracy, show up.

Today, Algerian parliament voted in favor of deploying Algerian military to Niger, allegedly to defend oil facilities some of which are jointly operated by Algerian state companies. Again, unprecented, even if scope is limited,we will see where exactly they will station.

Amid rumors of an unprecedented Algerian base in Niger, there seems to be a crisis ongoing within AES, with Burkina Faso being clear outlier. For now only signs, but ever since Traoré apparently refused to help during the Niamey coup, welcomed Israeli diplomat, tensions are stark.

Karak attackers remain at large two days after the attack. Worrying is an understatement. Suggest Jordan may have overlooked the existence of a large network with local support, which in the case of Jordan would be nothing new but it's been many years jiahdists openly threatened the state.

Good morning. -the Karak Christian church attackers are still at large as of this moment -another person died after succumbing to wounds, 8 killed and 40 wounded for now. -Jordan sends army to malls, embassies and key locations of tourist value. Not looking good.

Some words from me in the @theipaper.com this weekend. My last trip to Kyiv highlighted the critical importance of anti-ballistic missile systems and civil defence, both of which the UK badly lacks. Most importantly, I highlight the critical necessity of continuing to support Ukraine.
