We present the most advanced implementation of a synthetic CO2 fixation cycle in a living cell: rMasp in E. coli. 2/3 of the cycle works already together including fastest carboxylase known on earth, CCR! Nice advance designed and driven by Vittorio Rainaldi authors.elsevier.com/sd/article/S...

We have a medium-term PDRA position open in the York Bioenergetics Lab. The post will continue our fundamental work on mycobacterial bioenergetics and how bioenergetics is affected by some of the game-changing antibiotics being developed against TB. Please repost!

Congrats Naiya, @loltrogge.bsky.social and @savagecatsonly.bsky.social! It was an incredible journey to witness and such a cool result. So cool to see the details of a system that couples bioenergy to bicarbonate formation from CO2 in a one-way manner.

Structural insights into the coupling mechanism of vectorial CO2 uptake by DAB1 From the amazing @savagecatsonly.bsky.social ! www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/...

This is such a great piece of work about an amazing evolutionary story, every part of this is incredible. Congrats @rudycadenabioevo.bsky.social @evanowack.bsky.social Among other surprises, oxygen scavenging instead of photorespiration is not something I was expecting!

So far, fewer than 10 of the hundreds of known human milk oligosaccharides (HMOs) have been synthesized on a commercial scale and added to infant formulas. Plant biologist Patrick Shih of the University of California, Berkeley, is determined to change that. #chemsky 🧪

Ten years ago Tami, Roy, and I released a movie we made of antibiotic resistance evolving in real time. I thought maybe a couple thousand people tops would see it. I couldn't have imagined it would be seen millions of times, and be taught from middle school through the graduate level worldwide

Congrats @mackinderlab.bsky.social !!! 🎺🥁

There are three different size systems (mini, midi, super) to cope with different scales, up to about a kilogram of fresh weight of liverwort per tray for the super size. Can take plants through the entire life cycle - great for plant spore production.

Wow! Incredible work especially working in nitrogen fixing bacteria!

New preprint! How do you engineer one of biology’s most complex enzymes without breaking it? We used evolution as a guide to map a protein interface in nitrogenase, screening >9,000 variants to reveal sequence-function rules for future nitrogen fixation engineering. www.biorxiv.org/content/10.6...

📣Huge preprint 🔔 Today we share something our group has been working toward for a long time, led by @lucasmoriniere.bsky.social We asked can we predict which receptor a phage targets from its genome sequence alone? For most phages, we couldn’t. So Lucas set out to do something I had only dreamed of.

Excited to see the major chapter of my PhD in print! We present a massively-parallel approach for screening CRISPR edits in plants to speed up agricultural test cycles + benchmark genomic LMs. Thanks to my fantastic co-authors and advisors. Link below!

Can CRISPR edits enable precise tuning of plant gene expression? We think: yes. In our newest manuscript, we measured the effects of >30,000 CRISPR-like promoter mutations in sorghum protoplasts.

We have been cooking up this story for a while and we are excited to finally be able to share! Read on if you're interested in whole plant regeneration WITHOUT the application of hormones!
