I GOT THE DOMAIN! I FINALLY GOT IT!!!!!!!!!!1 🥳🎉 Paint.NET is now at paint.net! Well, it will be just as soon as I push all the buttons to migrate content and set up redirects from getpaint.net etc. For now it's just a "hey go here" redirect page.

I haven’t gone back and I don’t miss it

Just deleted my ChatGPT account. I'd rather use an LLM from a company that aligns with my values. I don't support mass surveillance or AI weapons without a human in the loop, and OpenAI does. The decision was made easier by just how good the other LLMs are. We are spoiled for choice!

API design is so freaking hard. Over the course of adding HLS support, I've redone the new API about 5 or 6 times by now. Sometimes you literally first need to see how Variant A feels before you know Variant B was better all along. And knowing you can't change it after release!

1) Al is a consensus machine 2) Al answers the question "what does a good response to this prompt look like?" Al is not a ground truth machine

You have the wisdom of crowds in your pocket, available to answer your most specific questions on demand. I use it when I want to know "what would a thoughtful, well-researched crowd say?" My job is to be the unitary executive who makes final decisions and takes accountability for them.

Vertical jobs—where you end-to-end solve a problem—seem more stable right now than horizontal jobs, where you specialize in doing one slice of a process.

Stellar article. I’m still excited about building realtime math collaboration even though I mostly agree with the takeaways.

I wrote about the most ambitious form of AI-assisted software development I've seen yet - Strong DM's "Software Factory" approach, where two of the guiding principles are "Code must not be written by humans" and "Code must not be reviewed by humans" simonwillison.net/2026/Feb/7/s...

simonwillison.netHow StrongDM’s AI team build serious software without even looking at the codeLast week I hinted at a demo I had seen from a team implementing what Dan Shapiro called the Dark Factory level of AI adoption, where no human even looks …

What a miracle to live in a time where you can find & befriend everybody who cares about a hyper-specific niche as much as you do.

@danabra.mov I'm struggling to grasp how a user's ATProto identity can survive changes in domain/hosting/etc without too much centralization on the registry. As far as I understand, it seems like the registry just... is? Centralized? Maybe it's fine. But I'm curious if you have more insight.

This felt like a no-brainer chance to try Tangled because I actually don't want to encourage tons of public issues and PRs yet but I do want people to interact socially with my work. Perfect opportunity to publish on an outlet with not-too-many users. And maybe we can drive some traffic to ATProto!

There is a dichotomy of UI elements. Some elements are a part of your component tree. Cards, form elements, carousels, etc. Some elements don't make much sense as a part of a component tree: toasts, dialogs, alerts. Those are side-effect elements.

Working on multiplayer for my math input library, heading down the CRDT rabbit hole I don’t think anyone has solved math multiplayer? Which is crazy because it can’t be that hard… is what I keep telling myself

We need more forums because Discord is where great answers go to die Forums are hard to start because you need a critical mass of users. Start with a blog, driven by one person, and slowly morph the website into a web forum

This was validated by my in-person experience at the Knowles teaching conference where I was approached by many strangers who recognized me from TikTok

Found a really great project made by a math teacher @pulljosh.com called shufflebuddy.com Its a great way to arrange and randomize your class roster into a seating chart. Lovely feature to add rules for restricting A and B from sitting or tagging certain students to a specific spot. #EduSky
