A part of this not mentioned is that Texas used to let kids transition. I volunteered at a camp for trans kids in Houston when I was in college (pre transition I know I know how did I not know I was trans). Guess where part of that camp was? Texas Children’s. That’s how much we lost
its insane how not many people are talking about how republicans with the help of several moderate democrats are building out the largest abusive medical conversion therapy operation in modern american history

The NYT story does not even include the word rape. Not once.

There are only two explanations for the NYT's habit of presenting GOP operatives and donors as true swing voters: 1. Their reporters and editors are somehow incapable of running a simple Google searches, showing just a staggering level of journalistic incompetence 2. They want to the GOP to win

I had Argon make this 53s video on Turek using archival footage snippets, for the following reasons: 1) It's important to understand the capabilities available to lab insiders using limiters-off frontier LLMs 2) In hopes of turning his anti-trans ad into a clear liability, pour encourager les autres
I've found the exact timestamp match and confirmed that argon is correct that they're the same videos. Before I set argon on this I hadn't realized that the specific clip he chose for his anti-trans ad as an example of democrats going "too far" was from an Epstein files hearing - odd, that!

they could be immunocompromised. they could be Batman. they could be immunocompromised Batman. either way it's none of your business and you might get your head sliced off with a batarang
RFK decided to once again target maskers in a speech, laughing about going to LA and seeing people driving in their cars while masked. And I want to make sure people know that studies have shown that the reason someone might wear a mask in their car is that it's none of your fucking business.

Out of religious modesty, women wore the "pilgrim hats" properly 'capotains' (which never had buckles), some of which were flat-topped, other sugarloaf. I guess we can't rule out pointy versions, but it's probably a historical misunderstanding. "Witches" were just well-dressed older women.

The US is not about to have a free and fair election. The state has put its thumb on the scale to favor the ruling party in multiple ways. It's a mostly free, somewhat unfair election. But still one where the ruling party can be overwhelmed by numbers. Hence the term "competitive authoritarianism."
It is atrocious we have to operate under this constant credible and explicit threat from one political party, the fact we keep calling it a “free and fair election” needs some light revising

Assuming this is the same magazine as the “Official Nintendo Magazine” I remember as a kid, that tracks, like that magazine in its final years was full of bizarre gags and bullshit They’d regularly have a segment called “does Batman like this game” where the the answer was always a resounding “no”

“If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us — if Lula wins, they let us die.” This sums up exactly what it feels like in the US if you belong to a marginalized community (trans especially) going into the midterms Regardless the side, you’re not a person. At best, you’re an issue to be ignored or overcome
We are relieved to see that another Bolsonaro will not take power in Brazil. But only grassroots action can address the deeper issues at play. “If Bolsonaro wins, they kill us—if Lula wins, they let us die.” crimethinc.com/2026/09/29/i...

I prefer to focus on providing good incentive structures
I'm repeating myself, but people should just vote for the best outcome, even if it's the "least bad" of all bad options. Save abstaining from choosing for options where you'll get neither. In an election, there is no getting neither. There's just letting others choose for you.

Kassio Nunes Marques, President of the Superior Electoral Court of Brazil, is responsible for deciding whether or not polls stay open for two extra hours across the states affected by voter suppression. Nunes Marques has received severe criticism for his pro-Bolsonaro stance ahead of the elections.

There have now been major voter suppression occurrences registered in 12 out of 27 states in Brazil. Major liberal Brazilian news channel ICL reports São Paulo mayor Ricardo Nunes, who supports Flávio Bolsonaro, said earlier he couldn’t “justify the costs” of running a full fleet in the city today.

What’s happening with public transport is the one confirmed voter suppression mechanism at the moment so it’s what I am focusing on, but there are SEVERAL reports of Lula voters being coerced by the military police, Bolsonaro voters threatening anyone wearing pro-Lula symbols, generalised violence…
