Seeing failure, and sick of it

Americans are “seeing failure, and they're sick of it.”

Greg Sargent@gregsargent.bsky.social

It's a big, underappreciated story in US politics that Trump has absolutely wrecked the traditional GOP advantage in three key areas: Economy, immigration, national security. Things really are different for Trump this time. Check out our exchange on this: newrepublic.com/article/2143...

Been thinking this for years now

NORMAL PEOPLE: Every single one of these assholes told a dumb brazen lie to our faces and should never be trusted again. CORPORATE MEDIA: Thank you for coming back to chat with us, sir!

Sure sounds like Trump is trying to make the White House into a fortress for when he refuses to leave office.

Aaron Rupar@atrupar.com

Trump: "Between the drone-proofing, missile-proofing, & drone capacity, we can have all sorts of military -- I hate to use the word snipers -- but we have great sniper capacity. It's built for our snipers, not enemy's snipers. And bc of the height we get a very clear view of everything all over DC."

I would like Democrats to come out and say that anyone receiving assets from this new slush fund, or profiting any of the other corrupt acts from this candidate, will have 100% of their assets seized the first chance we get. Even if they get pardoned.

“MAGA is the last breath of the Confederacy.”

Feeling overwhelmed with all of this. LISTEN. Another Louisiana resident (Marshawn is the only name we have) testifies against the state’s racial gerrymander, speaking truth to power up and down the hearing room and predicts how this story will end. Speak your truth, fight and believe.

McGovern: I think Trump is seriously ill. He needs medical attention. There needs to be an intervention from his family or someone in his cabinet—I would say some of the Republicans here, but they don’t have the balls to confront him on anything.

If we had a real Congress we could reform the Courts

Acyn@acyn.bsky.social

Warnock on SCOTUS: No one elected this Court—to decide what kind of remedies we need in this moment. It’s really not up to the Supreme Court to say, “Well, we have reached the threshold where this issue around race and inclusion is no longer necessary.” That is not the job of the Court.

Ossoff: "How does American politics really work? It's coin operated. Money goes in, favors come out. It's been running on secret money, corporate money, billionaire money ... all of this gave rise to a depraved president who exploits this rot to empower and enrich himself"

Putin continues to be a major winner from the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election.

Max Boot@maxboot.bsky.social

After saying the sanctions waiver for Russia would not be extended, the administration extends it on Friday night. Outrageous and shameful. Putin continues to be a major winner from the Iran War. www.foreign.senate.gov/press/dem/re...

Fire the consultants and listen to the people

Congressman Greg Casar@repcasar.bsky.social

Screw this. If anyone’s looking to see the dynamic that’s broken the Democratic Party in just a few paragraphs, you can look here. AI could kill millions of jobs. Democrats absolutely should not roll over and play dead.

Crockett: "The US is falling apart, partially bc he's allowing for killings in the street, but also bc we have a 34 count convicted felon being shielded from any type of accountability as it relates to a child sex trafficking ring. I don't understand why we're pretending any of this is normal."

Poverty is a policy choice. Concentrated wealth is a policy choice. Inequality is a policy choice. None of it is natural or inevitable. Remember: We have the power to build a system that serves the many, not the powerful few.

Elon Musk is about to become the first trillionaire. The reason poverty exists in the wealthiest country on earth isn't because we can't feed the poor — it's because we can't satisfy the rich. We should tax trillionaires out of existence.

Lionfish, a beautiful but terrible menace, is threatening the Gulf’s underwater ecosystem. The only way to control the species is to spear the fish one by one. https://www.texasmonthly.com/travel/invasive-lionfish-gulf-spearfishing/

Seems like we should be talking more about this.

Senator Bernie Sanders@sanders.senate.gov

I don’t often agree with Elon Musk, but I fear that he may be right when he says, “AI and robots will replace all jobs.” So what happens to workers who have no jobs and no income? AI & robotics must benefit all of humanity, not just billionaires.

Hey this is not a moment to stay silent. Oct 18th - No Kings Day - is our chance to show we won't accept the militarization of our citizens, the brazen corruption of the Trump family, and the destruction of our health care. Find your local protest at nokings.org.

Where does one sign up for those paychecks?

Matthew Dowd@matthewjdowd.bsky.social

I am planning on going to No Kings gathering this weekend in central Texas. And since I was terminated by MSNBC a few weeks ago, can someone let me know where to pick up paycheck that GOP keeps talking about. I have asked many folks going to No Kings, and none are getting paid.

Jack Bryan on Threads talks about how Frank Sinatra saved Don Rickles's life. Rickles said, "Some goons were beating me up. Frank comes over and says, 'Okay, guys, that's enough.'" Bryan says--with some truth--that he remembered that anecdote when Trump hogged the credit for ending the war in Gaza.

Pritzker: "I think it's important to recognize that the Trump administration does not seem to respect any laws in the United States. They just do what they want to do and they'll keep doing it unless someone stops them. Here in Illinois we're stopping them."

This is only going to get worse.

Chris Murphy@chrismurphyct.bsky.social

This is out of hand. These agents are there to cause trouble and violence, not to keep people safe. These are the scenes that play out in war torn, destitute countries - not America.

Texas National Guard has no business in Illinois.

Governor JB Pritzker@govpritzker.illinois.gov

I call on Governor Abbott to immediately withdraw any support for this decision and refuse to coordinate. There is no reason a President should send military troops into a sovereign state without their knowledge, consent, or cooperation.

We are witnessing a clumsy, dumb authoritarian regime try to consolidate power. They only have a chance because the corporate and media elites are ok with it, which has abetted mass ignorance of what’s happening. The pathetic weakness of the opposition party leadership helps, too.
