Unsurprisingly, I'm a massive fan of Oxford Street pedestrianisation. Well done Mayor of @london.gov.uk 👏

Yesterday, the pedestrianisation of Oxford Street made history, with one of the busiest streets in the UK becoming a greener, healthier and more prosperous place. Hear from our Air Quality and Transport Programme Manager @RalphPalmer.bsky.social on what this means for our High Streets 👇️

This is great to see. Making it easier for those without a driveway to access cheaper home charging is a critical step to ensuring the EV transition is fair & equitable. Further strengthening the rights of renters to request a charger would also be a really positive step. www.gov.uk/government/n...

“She and other office staff were called out from the offices into the stores, to help hand out shovels to the many local men who joined the recovery efforts.” Ahead of the 60th anniversary of Aberfan, Vikki Howells MS reflects on an industrial legacy that still shadows South Wales communities.

Critical, though, that the govt does not see this as an excuse/reason to retreat from the ZEV mandate & follow the EU down the path of making carve-outs for "alternative fuels". The govt has so far doubled down on its commitment to 100% EV sales from 2035; it would be a mistake to change course.

This - alongside the govt's commitment to a more "muscular" approach to industrial strategy - could be very good news for helping the UK in building a strong EV manufacturing base for the long-term. www.theguardian.com/world/2026/o...

With climate impacts being increasingly felt, the public will not thank the govt for rowing back on ambition; particularly when that ambition is making the EV transition more affordable & accessible than before. The ZEV mandate is one of the best climate policies we have - it should be protected.

EV sales are booming while fossil fuel prices are soaring. For our climate, energy security & household living costs we need to double down on our EV ambition, not row back on it.

Two major records have been broken in recent days: ⛽ Diesel prices hit £2 a litre for the first time. 🔌 Sept was the biggest ever month for new EV sales, with nearly 100k sold. Getting drivers off the fossil fuel rollercoaster must be a priority for this Labour Government.

Delivering on this government's commitment to reindustrialisation & a beefed up industrial strategy is the best chance to protect UK auto manufacturers now & in the long-term. Watering down the ZEV mandate only weakens investment case & reduces incentive to shift production to EV.

Baffling to see The Times claim that Burnham “did not mention energy” in his conference speech. Energy was referenced no fewer than 10 times, alongside a major announcement of £4bn for Great British Grid to cut connection delays and bring bills down. Britain's energy challenge was front & centre.

Big thanks to all who joined us, including our excellent speakers for making every discussion lively and insightful, and a special thanks to my wonderful colleagues (including our honorary members) for making it such a great experience!

Besides our big ticket events with the Foreign & Energy Secretary's and reception, we had amazing events on the NHS & climate resilience, cost of living populism, food security, warm homes, the grid, climate impacts on grassroots sports, reindustrialisation, and much more. We had it all.

In August this year, for 1 month, the Government made bus journeys free for children in England. Now, new figures show that the scheme enabled more than 14 million free child journeys. One bus service in the North East had 710% more child passengers than last summer. Our reaction 👇

Some awesome framing from the PM in the Guardian today to accompany the ambitious policy on community energy After a summer of wildfires, extreme heat and poor harvests, we can't afford to see climate as only a threat, we must make sure UK is making most of opportunities of the clean transition

Reindustrialising Britain will require an ambitious programme of investment and a clear strategic vision to transform our industries so they can thrive in a modern, green economy. Join LCEF and @tuc.org.uk for a discussion on what it will take to deliver on the reindustrialisation agenda.

The assertion from some that the UK's ZEV mandate is unworkable is fiction. It's working exactly as intended; driving up sales, driving down prices & widening choice for consumers, all while reducing emissions & cleaning up our air. The Govt should stand firm on targets.

This is remarkable. As a result of ULEZ, children's lung health is catching up with areas outside of the capital. This is why action on air pollution matters. A child's health should never be determined by their postcode. The Mayor's leadership on this issue should be applauded.

Air pollution was holding too many children back. New research shows that after the ULEZ was introduced in Central London, the share of children with clinically impaired lung function fell from 14% to 9%. Cleaner air means healthier lungs and healthier futures.

Our research published last month shows that linking cleaner air to children's health is one of the most persuasive framings to build support for greater action. This should be at the heart of the Government's approach to cleaning up our air.

LCEF is proud to have supported this - with extreme heat becoming a regular occurrence in UK summers, it’s vital that we help keep people safe, cool and comfortable in their homes, as well as decarbonising to combat climate change. Air to air heat pumps will be an important part of the solution.

Sheer fantasy to think that climate change is just going to give us 'hot weather like on holiday'. 300,000 people evacuated across France and Spain. Wildfires in the UK barely kept under control. Yes - we desperately need adaptation, but if we don't mitigate things will get drastically worse.

Reindustrialisation means investing in the industries & tech that will sustain jobs for decades to come. Anyone in the auto-industry who say that will come from anything other than EVs are flogging a dead horse. It's important govt policy recognises that.
