Happy sports equinox day! Today is the only day this year that you can (try to) watch an NBA, NFL, MLB, NHL and WNBA game at the exact same time, or as I call it: The Sickos Challenge.

In 1988, Francis Halzen presented a radical idea for a new kind of space observatory in a paper titled ‘High Energy Neutrino Detection in Polar Ice'. This diagram is his earliest demonstration of how this would work. Read the full 1988 paper here: https://bit.ly/47rflly

The Pope reminds me of a version of Catholicism I knew growing up as a young man attending anti-war and anti-death penalty protests, where I met elderly Catholics who shared their version of faith with me. I learned that Catholicism was about love and mercy for the weak, the condemned, and the poor.

Pope Leo XIV celebrated Mass with an estimated 800,000 people in Paris on Saturday, after spending the morning with migrants, the poor, and adults newly entering the Catholic Church. “For Christians,” he added, “the poor are not a sociological category, but the very ‘flesh’ of Christ.”

If you start with the great icosahedron and apply the Galois transformation, you get a regular icosahedron. If you apply the Galois transformation a second time, you make the icosahedron great again.

One of my favourite facts is that the spiky tail of a stegosaurus didn't used to have a specific name, until Gary Larson published this Far Side cartoon, at which point "thagomizer" was adopted by paleontologists.
