🧵Spotted While Roaming in Aotearoa New Zealand: An elderly black dog with distinguished silver whiskers (Staffy cross miniature walrus?) is sitting on the deck of an old apple shed. Eyes closed as she basks in the sun. A lady at her leisure.

Not really sure “Knockin’ on heaven’s door” is the right hold music for a medical center. And yet Optum chose that anyway.

New: Seattle residents call on Microsoft, Starbucks, Costco, Alaska Airlines, other major employers to stop fighting the proposed taxes that would give the city resources to properly address serious social issues that lead to public safety problems.

Completely fucking useless

He ends by implying that this is an easy problem to solve if we could just drop our left-wing ideology long enough to finally impose consequences on homeless people and addicts. Not only is this unconstitutional, it's also incredibly expensive! Either way we're providing housing and services.

The core argument is that cities like Seattle are so addled by left-wing ideology that they have fallen into dystopia. In reality, the city has never adequately funded harm reduction programs and continues to rely on incarceration to address homelessness. What Powell wants is what we're doing.

Overnight, a masked bandit broke into our kitchen. Armed with opposable thumbs, he proceeded to sample everything on offer. I’d just visited the farmers market, so the menu was extensive. I can now share a highly specific peer-reviewed list of what this particular raider did & did not enjoy. 🧵

I thought I was training this crow (I have nicknamed the crow Buddy) but it turns out Buddy has been training *me*. I’m the one who hops up when Buddy arrives cawing, and I’m the one who has learned which food Buddy prefers. And I’m ok with the arrangement 😏

Well, if it’s 30 May, it must be... YES, THAT’S RIGHT! The 287th anniversary of the unveiling of Jacques de Vaucanson’s marvellous, mechanical shitting duck 🧵

I want to start learning to forage for mushrooms, but also, THIS.

every mushroom foraging guidebook: This is Woodland Pot Roast, a tasty little mushroom that adds a delightful flavour to soups and stews. Note that it is often mistaken for Satan’s Fistula, a mushroom that erases the last 9 generations of your family from God’s ledgers.

I can’t stop thinking about this. As someone who regularly takes a ferry, you do NOT cut the line. I love that this man fucked around and found out, in a world where there is not nearly enough ‘finding out’ for people like this.

An 85-year-old man from Seattle was arrested at the Bainbridge Island ferry terminal Sunday after allegedly almost hitting a ferry worker with his Porsche SUV and punching a police officer in the face.

The number of times a man has seen me heading up some mountain trail when he’s coming down, and tried to warn me about how high/cold/close to sunset/snowy/difficult it is, as if I’ve noooo idea 🫠

Ever notice how many men see a woman doing something they think is risky (like traveling alone) and immediately assume she’s naive and stupid - instead of assuming she’s intentionally taking a calculated risk? They can’t imagine a woman might do something even mildly dangerous on purpose.

If there are any Democrats who are thinking of running for the presidency on 2028 on anything less than a clear agenda of widespread prosecution for this administration's corruption and fundamental structural changes to ensure it can't happen again, they should just stop right there.
