Walter was more than Chekov. He was a writer, a teacher, a thoughtful man, and a loyal friend. To the fans who loved him for so many years, thank you. He loved you too. Rest well, my dear friend. Keep navigating a steady course. – George

Riding the ferry from Plattsburgh, NY to Grand Isle, VT on a moonlit night. The ferry in the picture was going in the opposite direction, from Grand Isle to Plattsburgh.

Having a little snack before bed. I'm a little disturbed by the asymmetrical shape of these Little Debbie Swiss Rolls. Still tasty, though.

My kid has started a Letterboxd list called Killer Sweaters for films where the killer wears a great sweater and they've asked me to throw it out to Bluesky for more because "that's the kind of thing those weirdos like to do"

Happy 118th birthday, spacetime. 🧪 🔭 ⚛️ Hermann Minkowski addressed the 80th Assembly of German Natural Scientists and Physicians #OTD in 1908, offering a radical four-dimensional reformulation of Einstein's theory of special relativity. Here is how he opened his address.

For as long as we’ve been looking to the sky, humans have been drawn to the Moon. By studying the Moon in many different forms of light we learn about its composition, surface conditions, and much more. Observe the Moon with us this weekend: t.co/nrybbPGcYn

For your Tuesday, here's a shot of deep, deep, deep space from JWST. Every bright, six-pointed feature is a star in the Milky Way. Everything else—even the smallest, faintest dots—are whole galaxies millions to *billions* of lightyears away.

I had a beautiful clear, Moonless night last night and captured this image of the Andromeda Galaxy. This was about 180 ten-second exposures taken over a half hour. I've been waiting for Andromeda since I got my smart telescope in the spring, and it didn't disappoint.

Staying up late for astronomy. M31 the Andromeda Galaxy. I've been waiting all summer for it to be in season. Captured with Seestar S30 Pro.

i need people to start responding to questions about trans women in sports with "what the hell is wrong with you?? why do you care about this all of a sudden? why do you want to impose insane, invasive rules just to stop some 8th grader from hanging out with her friends after school" at the minimum

I greatly enjoyed #StarTrekSNW #StrangeNewWorlds Like Chronitons Through the Hourglass. The over-the-top soap opera tropes made me laugh, it all made sense given who was behind it, and they used it to do some strong character work. And casting [redacted] as Dr. Chivers was brilliant.

Scientists who study climate don't automatically attribute all changes to human activity. Rather, we carefully investigate every possible natural factor that could explain the planet's warming. Could these be the real culprits? The evidence is in--and the answer is NO. This thread explains! 🧵

The app didn't save individual frames of the video (I think I missed a setting), but here is a screenshot from right around maximum (93%) eclipse. 3/

It was windy out, and the telescope had a bit of trouble keeping the image steady, but it tracked the Moon even when clouds passed through at around the halfway mark of the video. 2/

Tonite: we’ve got the final eclipse of the season and the last for 2026, with a deep partial lunar eclipse. The Americas will see the eclipse in it’s entirety, while Europe and Africa will see the eclipse at moonset, and the Pacific region will see it already underway at moonrise.
