Eh, I think the “post-left” going mask-off was actually good for the closely-associated “dirtbag left.” It became too disgusting to ignore, and most either faded away from politics or made a shift into sincere, humane leftism (Halkias is a good example of the latter)
I'm not saying every "dirtbag leftist" was and is an amoral garbage bag, but I'm not not saying that.

there's some through line I'm not equipped to articulate from what google was publishing as SEO best practices between like 2017-2022 and what we now call AI and someone who can explain that evolution in plain language will probably be doing all of us a big favor
People have wondered what happens when the web fully rots out from underneath chatbots and search engines. Now we know at least one answer: AI is watching a lot of YouTube nymag.com/intelligence...

I've spent a lot of years studying a lot of collapses, and the truth of the matter is that they're always mundane: mild climatic shifts that reduce crop yields, a dumbass in power who makes some terrible decisions, neglecting things that obviously matter but the will to fix them can't be summoned.
Certain kinds of smart people tend to have a "sexy apocalypse" problem when it comes to thinking about risk. E.g. skynet turning everyone in paperclips, while bad, is also *kind of cool and fun* at the same time. Where the reality is that most actual disasters are both stupid and disappointing.

honestly some of the most apocalyptic impacts of "AI" will be shit like this, and most of the doomsday dipshits predicting SkyNet can't be bothered to notice or care
There have always been humans who thought: 1) The world will end soon 2) It will happen in a cool, exciting way 3) It’ll happen to me personally 4) I’ll be a martyred prophet, or a warlord, or otherwise special 5) People who don’t see this are lesser “Sexy apocalypse” is a great phrase for that
A big piano fell, and the security guar, who was whistling and walking back and forth twirling his baton, was seconds away from being crushed by the piano and all his teeth would be replaced by the piano keys.
Trump: "The Kennedy Center is in a virtual state of collapse, and has been for many years ... unfortunately, the Building is destined to doom. Isn’t that too bad?"

The president ordering USPS to illegally throw out millions of ballots is at least on par with what he tried to do for 2020, and in big ways it's worse. It's another attempted self-coup, trying to create a fake Congress. That he's even attempting it is already a deadly serious constitutional crisis.

everyone knows DC is my favorite place. so much glorious diversity packed into so little space. walk for an hour and you can pass through like six neighborhoods. great food everywhere, music everywhere, trees and parkland everywhere. past year's felt like i'm watching the cossacks burn down anatevka
DC is a deeply eerie place right now. phalanxes of feds and national guard everywhere you look, trump's ugly fucking mug staring down at you from every other federal building. my hometown is maybe the loveliest walking-around-type city in the country and they are trying like hell to ruin it
