"...we’ve all been subject to a decades-long industry influence campaign targeted at politicians and the public, designed to convince us that methane gas is 'natural' fuel that’s good for our bodies and the environment."

Was great going on Heated's podcast with @emorwee.bsky.social & @tracywholf.bsky.social to unpack why smart people believe that natural gas is a climate solution and the long campaign that got us there. heated.world/p/why-smart-...

I stared at Justice Kavanaugh for ~2 hours (only justice I could clearly see from my nosebleed SCOTUS seat) during the first case of the term: a hugely consequential bid by Big Oil to kill climate lawsuits Here's @rebleber.bsky.social and my take on what happened pointsourcenews.org/boulder-exxo...

This fall, SCOTUS will hear a blockbuster climate case — one of dozens brought by US governments arguing oil companies deceived the public about the dangers of burning fossil fuels and should be held accountable. On 9/23 at 12pm ET, dig in with CCNow + @pointsourcenews.org RSVP: buff.ly/oEmltW0

I worked with Dr. Joe Romm in my first job, on his site Climate Progress. I thought he was fearless then, and he remained so throughout his career. His writing inspired and taught me, and many many others. Saddened by this unexpected loss. web.sas.upenn.edu/pcssm/news/r...

As climate lawsuits against fossil fuel companies get closer to trial, oil giants and a constellation of well-funded allies are deploying multiple strategies to try to undermine the cases or completely immunize the industry from liability. Here's a roadmap of all the ways they're doing it.

This morning a GOP bill to immunize oil companies from all climate lawsuits will go to a full committee markup. It's one of many ways the industry and its well-funded allies are maneuvering to escape the law. Read about them in my first story for Point Source pointsourcenews.org/theyre-pulli...

New documents detail the oil and gas industry’s attempts to loosen federal methane pollution reporting requirements while simultaneously urging the U.S. EPA to preserve the Greenhouse Gas Reporting Program, which informs climate policy from local to global levels. Why? Dive in buff.ly/pznk7HE

Chances are you've heard that methane leaks make natural gas worse for the climate than we've been led to believe. And yet many of us still think of gas as the "clean" fossil fuel. That didn't happen by accident.

2- Oil companies were in fact already aware of extensive, world-wide methane pollution caused by operations. In 1966, the head of a high level Shell study group wrote, "Natural gas is liberated in embarrassingly large quantities at oil fields.”

3- In the early 70s, fearful the public was turning away from natural gas because of pollution, the American Gas Association had an advertising firm that worked with oil and tobacco cos respond. AGA launched a widespread “Gas, Clean Energy for Today and Tomorrow” campaign, new docs show.
