Listening to the daughter of Taiwanese immigrants argue the granular details of a previous case overturning racist laws against the children of Chinese migrants is really striking - and exemplifies the same things that are great about America that the Trump admin is trying to kill.

I keep trying to remind myself that all of this - banning healthcare for Trans kids, renaming the Kennedy Center, the delusional rant last night - is at least in-part an attempt to "flood the zone" for the Epstein files (legally, they have to be released tomorrow), but wow.

Hey, would it be considered both racial and political gerrymandering if folks who live at 38th and Post are in the same congressional district as white rural farmers an hour and a half away? Because that's preeeety blatant, even for this administration.

Wildstyle@mrwildstyle.bsky.social

I can't tell for sure but I think the new Indiana congressional map they proposed got me Near Northwest Riverside - (the hood) in the same district with MARTINSVILLE (KKKville) 🤦🏿‍♂️😂😂😭😭 Republicans ain't even pretending no more 😂

I simply refuse to accept that police ever have to look like this. this is just pure cosplay. it should be illegal for cops to be dressed like soldiers going to war.

On Tuesday, Americans sent Democrats a resounding message. “Fight for us” “Fight for working class Americans” “Fight against Trump’s corruption, criminality and cruelty” 5 days later, Democrat Senators sent Americans a resounding message. “Nah”

Welch: "This has nothing to do with the shutdown. The law requires and the funds are available to continue SNAP right now without any interruption. So that is a decision the president is making on his own to allow people to go hungry."

Not to dunk on People, since they seem to be meeting the moment better than most, but PEOPLE MAGAZINE is doing more actual reporting than most major media outlets.

Indiana is calling a special session for illegal mid-cycle redistricting. 40% of Hoosiers are Dems but we've been gerrymandered into only have 2/9 Congressional reps, but apparently Mike Braun thinks we shouldn't have any. I hope Spartz, Baird, and Shreve are terrified. #hoosiersky

I love the Portland protests so much!!

The Oregonian@oregonian.com

Outside of Portland's ICE facility last night, Kenny from South Park got married to a unicorn. The betrothed Portland couple said they decided to get hitched on site to bring some joy and fun to a dark time. "People can be fun loving people and still protest." www.oregonlive.com/crime/2025/1...

I don't think people really appreciate how much of an insult is when Midwesterners deny you food. Chicago restaurants locking their doors on you? I cannot think of a bigger regional f-you.

"In the likely absence of federal wraparound services for students with disabilities, Wright-Gallo recommended that parents and advocates start paying more attention to support systems at the local and state level." (where there have already been huge funding cuts because "DEI")

Chicago priest Fr. Larry Dowling describes procession to ICE facility: “No one had the courage to speak directly to us. No one from Homeland Security could stand in the presence of the Monstrance holding the Blessed Sacrament. No wonder. Evil is repelled, recoils in the presence of Christ.”

I appreciate my family's ancestral homeland (Chicago's Southside Irish neighborhoods) approach of basically, "fuck you, you fuckin' fuck," but there is something to be said for Portland and their joyful absurdism. Tea parties. Inflatable costume raves. Clowns. Fishing with donuts. Perfection.

Hey, is planning to build a Qatari Air Base in the US a bad idea? Because it sounds like a bad idea. On the other hand, seeing how ICE treated the folks in the US to build a South Korean factor, I'm sure that bringing in Qatari people to work in and live on the base IN IDAHO will go swimmingly.

This is an important point. Everyone one of these people has been asked to leave their home, their family, and their job to work without pay bc of the shutdown. We're better off thinking of ways to make this backfire on Abbott than to treat them poorly.

The majority party in Congress sets the voting schedule. House Republicans canceled votes for all of the entire week. They haven't scheduled a vote since September 19.  Remember that the next time they try to blame the shutdown on Democrats.

It really is time for some folks to start making this argument. Not Medicare for all, but that'd be better, but Medicaid. If only to make these financial comparisons.

I could write several blog entries about this, but I’ll just focus on one here: No, Dems aren’t putting anyone earning 4x the poverty level on Medicaid; the cutoff under the ACA is 138% FPL. And if they were, that could actually cost less than the subsidies provided to enrollees earning 138-400%.

As I stand amid a dizzying swirl of destructive distractions, I'm reminded again of this simple fact: Whatever is in the Epstein files must be incomprehensibly bad. All of this - **waves arms wildly in all directions** - it in service to keeping those files hidden.

I don't even know what to say anymore. This is terrifying.

My god. “Watson said she saw agents dragging residents, including kids, out of the building without any clothes on and into U-Haul vans. Kids were separated from their mothers…’It was heartbreaking to watch…seeing kids coming out buck naked and taken from their mothers, it was horrible.’”

Not to be too controversial, no matter what the president and Sec. of Defense say, I think the people I know who are/were in the military do more than kill people and break things, and most of you fit in with polite society fine. Well, some of you only okay, but we're focusing on the positive.

the president of the united states wants to use the american military to kill american citizens on american soil. that's the whole story!

As the shutdown looms, let’s play; what are the facts? FACT: Trump wants to distract from Epstein. RELEASE THE FILES FACT: Republicans run the House, Senate, & White House… if there is a shutdown, Real Math says it’s the REPUBLICANS’ SHUTDOWN.

Antifa means "anti-fascist." There is no organization, no membership committee, there are no secret handshakes - they don't even have a newsletter. If you are anti-antifa, you are pro fascist. I'm anti-fascist.

So, the president is now starting a war with... Portland? I mean, what, were there too many people riding bikes? Were the IPA's just too bitter? Was the coffee over-roasted? Was the performance art protests just too mocking? I swear this is literally just the stupidest.

As far as many people are concerned this is the text of the First Amendment

Ryan Grim@ryangrim.bsky.social

So Democrats shouldn’t call Republicans fascist or gestapo or anything because that could provoke violence, but it is appropriate to call Democrats domestic terrorists or a domestic extremist organization. Do I have that right?

The Republicans control the Senate. The Republicans control the House. The Republicans control the presidency. The Republicans control the Supreme Court. If the government shuts down, it is the Republicans' fault.
