At this stage in the timeline, I'd much rather he was quoting the @rtalsoriangames.bsky.social version of the dark future than this "getting high on my own supply" AI nonsense

Is it just me, or do even RFK's vocal cords sound like they want to give up and stop saying the ridiculous garbage that comes out of his mouth?

Sausagemeat is smarter than this motherfucker. The relentless idiocy of this regime is *exhausting*. It's unbearable.

Even now, when people are discussing their favourite soft drinks, this is the one that to comes to my mind

Tim Worthington@outonbluesix.bsky.social

Quatro - New Romantic-themed proto-cyberpunk early eighties soft drink of the future which is also now with never-determinable 'mixed fruits' flavour, promoted with ad in which stray member of Kajagoogoo gets can from vending machine with a special card. timworthington.org/2018/07/17/l...

It is, when all is said and done, a book about a boarding school... 🤷

It is my considered opinion that, all consideration of bigotry aside (both the texts and the authors), Harry Potter is jejune and clichéd, remixing and recycling tropes that were already tired by the 1950s.

Reminder that when establishment figures complain about "elites" supporting progressive causes, they're - knowingly or otherwise - using that term in the same way they might also use "rootless cosmopolitans" or "cultural Marxists".

And as an aside - you should not doubt how fucking uncool D&D was in 1998 as a game, and how poisoned that particular well had been for a while. Baldur's Gate turned that around, and if you do want a road from D&D then to D&D now, it does strike me that Bioware's needs more credit than they get.

Do you know, I'm starting to think that Donald Trump might not be the most competent or reliable source when it comes to this matter... 🤔

Day 7 The Ooser, based on the Dorset Ooser, a hollow wooden head part man, part horned beast that was a part of Dorset folk culture in the 18th and 19th centuries, it was possibly used to scare people in a kind of public humiliation for those who had behaved immorally. I have prints in store now

Not that The Bookseller magazine lays awake at night worrying about what I might think, I'm sure, but having just finished my copy of Everything Will Swallow You this very morning, I have to say that I agree with its assessment wholeheartedly.

I recently found out that my latest novel has been chosen by The Bookseller magazine as paperback of the year for 2026. To say it had an inauspicious start in life would be putting things mildly… tomcox.substack.com/p/how-a-nove...

And I'm glad to have this piece of information to hang my own praise on, because at the moment I don't have the words to say quite how wonderful a book it is

Seeing a lot of articles recently talking about events running the risk of reviving the Tories' "nasty party" reputation. I must have missed the memo where said reputation somehow magically disappeared for an unspecified period of time...

Very funny show by @misterabk.bsky.social tonight - highly recommended seeing him. Also, top notch deployment of David Devant and his Spirit Wife as part of the interval music - not heard that song in years 🦰

TL:DR - our political/media class gambled an enormous amount of their credibility and legitimacy on America’s noble War On Terror, and *they lost disastrously*. Rather than admit they fucked it horribly, they have doubled down on militarism and propaganda again and again. Look what they’ve now done.

Wait a minute - is this a test..? I don't want to get kicked out before I've learned about sentient cheese...

The press have decided to reimpose the two party model and unfortunately, that requires “pretending to believe Kemi Badenoch is doing a good job”. Which is pretty bad, given she’s a disastrously online wacko.

Just walked past a guy on his phone whose AI system of choice was telling him that "whilst I can tell you about the pharmacology of amphetamines, I cannot help you buy any"... 🤦

It would be hugely amusing if this was a bunch of black shorts (masks and white transits seems to fit the MO) who thought every RAF base is likely to house migrants, and picked the most well-defended one out there

One dizzying-yet-oddly-fun aspect of thinking on timescales this vast is the reminder that our concept of "world geography" is just the briefest instant, a single ripple, a shadow thrown by firelight. Here's one projection of how things will look 250 million years from now. Look at those mountains!

Mike Sowden@mikeachim.bsky.social

You might have seen this illustration. Apart from artistic liberties being taken with the width of the Atlantic, it's startling. But what if it was connected together and made *walkable*? What if you could commit *years* to walking it? Well - you can. Not all of it. But it's coming together! 1/

I was thinking about Neuromancer and the distinction between constructs like Dixie Flatline — an LLM with the memories of the real dead hacker — and the AIs ‘Neuromancer’ and ‘Wintermute’ — which have artificial general intelligence. Anthropic et al. are selling Dixies like they’re Wintermutes.
