I once directed Rik Mayall for a voiceover. Poor bloke was full of cold, feeling like crap but stuck it out (oo-er!) and nailed it (OO-ER!) I worked with a lot of famous sorts but Rik was just an absolutely lovely, zero pretention, all-round good bloke.

The only time I've ever shed a tear over a celebrity dying was for Rik Mayall. The Young Ones started when I was at secondary school and changed the way I saw comedy. Bottom is still my favourite series of any type and I've now got my 11yr old into it.

Do you ever just think, Rik fucking Mayall, man, and then get a bit sad. He'd be 68 now. (Bottom is 35 years old this month.) Weird how I miss a man who I'd never met as much as I do, but I just think 2026 would be a lot better if he was still about.
