#Fairbanks, the reading at the Noel Wien Library that was canceled in February due to snowpocalypse is rescheduled for Oct. 21! Come if you can! I think there will be snacks?

“You totally didn’t look like you’d just driven 10 hours to get here,” they say, then send you this 🫠 (Thank you, Fairbanks Library Foundation, it was fun, in a kinda type 2 way but that wasn’t your fault)

“There is a reason, after all, that some people wish to colonize the moon, and others dance before it as before an ancient friend.” — James Baldwin, No Name in the Street

I’m en route to Whitehorse for these two events, including reading with @evaholland.bsky.social! I’ve wanted to get to know the place & community better, rather than just briefly passing through, for so long, & I’m grateful to Yukon Words for helping make it happen. 🤍📚

I had vague notions of bumbling around doing art (& also searching for extraterrestrial life til I realized that wd exceed my math abilities) & storing my belongings at an older man’s house but for the most part I did not dream of labor, only geographies, so I guess by some measure I’ve succeeded 😂🫠

I would have been an astronaut

Did anyone else read this anonymous op-ed from the Anchorage Press email yesterday, which is now not to be found on their website? Maybe this is a website issue and not a retraction? I was gonna share it and ask y’all for your thoughts. It seemed odd to me. Like the voice seemed contrived.

“I think what they’re really concerned about is that left politics *will* resonate — and you’ll have progressives and democratic socialists in office demanding that the Democratic Party leadership actually do something.”

sort of annoyed that it's KUAC pledge drive week & there's no live reporting of the V*nce FAI appearance so my only insights are from a very high friend in a plane waiting to take off

After much trying not to be the one to have to do it, i have been appointed to my district's GVEA nominating committee. I do not actually know how the sun gets in the wires, but I am for it.

Abt Phoenix Girl: Michelle is a friend from college, & we've kept loosely in touch. We connected at the Tucson Festival of Books in March. Her book is such a gorgeous act of healing & vulnerability, outside what I often read, but i'm so glad it exists in the world. www.mochimag.com/arts-culture...

Oh no, it seems I have been added to a starter pack 🫠 Some housekeeping: I am not a Democrat! Tr*mp is a symptom, america is the disease! It is ok to hold progressives accountable! Misogyny & white supremacy are bipartisan values and this is a problem that should be addressed! Hope that helps.

Tried to choose the bear but the NPS closed the park road to biking due to bear activity so I was stuck in cell range with all this news about MEN. Goddam federal overreach.

wishing i'd thought in time to say to the UMV employee who made a tired-ass & potentially triggering weight loss joke abt filling out the driver's license renewal form "how DARE you say that during fat bear week?!" instead of just quiet grumble ignoring it

First snow wiggles of the season! Had to climb into a windstorm to find it (tbh I thought we’d meet the snow lower and the wind later but he made the most of this little patch)

My book, Ghosts of Distant Trees, includes a short essay about getting an abortion in a Fbx clinic, & eating goldfish crackers in the recovery room, over 10 yrs ago. Yesterday I went to the same clinic for the 1st time since for routine care* & felt cozy seeing them in the waiting room snacks
