Travel across North America learn how the efforts of a new generation of digital librarians are returning indigenous knowledge to its rightful stewards.

"The auguries are raining down hard. Think or Sink. Comply or Die. Look Up or be Left Out. And so, with these not-so-gentle threats, it has come to pass that the Age of AI–Actual Idiocy, Actual Super Idiocy, Recursive Snowballing-Idiocy – is upon us..." -Arundhati Roy www.equator.org/articles/aru...
THANK YOU, VANCOUVER!
Last night, we made history in Vancouver by electing 12 COPE candidates to city council, school board, and park board as part of a progressive sweep that pushed out every person from Ken Sim’s team except one.
Vancouver deserves better than this petty Trump style smear campaign. A bunch of AI edited screenshots? Blog posts from 2008? Can’t attack my policies as a councillor? Pathetic.
New ad by ABC Vancouver is out!
In 11 days from now, their intense 18-month focus on Orr — which has resulted in a code of conduct breach and a defamation suit for two different situations — will either be seen as smart politics, or a giant unforced error.

A note to writers on AI scams in publishing and fraudulent emails purporting to be from our staff, well-known authors, or literary festival staff being sent to writers.
Please note that any emails that are not sent from an arsenalpulp.com domain address are not legitimate.

New post at ACRLog about the breakneck speed at which the Library of Congress implemented the #LCSH changes to Lake Ontario—just 8 days from proposal to approval, with no comments allowed. 📚 The title is from a letter written by our friend Sandy Berman. acrlog.org/2026/09/12/l...
Here's a slightly expanded version of my earlier thread on the ridiculous "It's okay to use AI to get started" story that's so popular in higher ed discourse on research education these days.
Thrilled to have this article out in the world with @libraryleadpipe.bsky.social , a journal I’ve read closely for over a decade. It’s a career highlight to be published in it.
I work at a public library. People who want to use AI seem to have no trouble doing so. People who don't want to use AI have a harder time. I crowdsourced and then finalized this document "How to disable or avoid intrusive AI" and then gave it a short URL: notoai.org Please pass along if it's useful
said it for years: you don’t have to always mask. but if you masked in easy to do, non eating scenarios as much as you can bear, ie
—planes
—busses
—trains
—stores
—movies
—concerts
—offices
—HOSPITALS
you’d be sick less, save lives & enjoy life much more
Going on a trip? Don’t let COVID-19 crash your summer plans. Wearing an N95 mask protects you from respiratory viruses like COVID-19. Consider wearing a mask in indoor and crowded places like airports and planes.

Libraries are still essential in the digital age. Some librarians are even helping patrons ditch AI and get off Big Tech.
This week Hannah Cyrus and @flexlibris.bsky.social join @parismarx.com to discuss how libraries address people’s concerns about tech.

I’ve officially resigned as Associate Editor for Frontiers in Systems Neuroscience. It used to be a reputable journal, but became a case study in how forced automation destroys academic integrity. 👇
It's okay to use citation software. It's okay not to. Using citation software isn't even a little bit like using Gen AI to write, read, or summarize (citation software is deterministic: same inputs, same outputs).
These are actually easy things to know and understand and avoid Discourse about.
I am honoured, humbled, & so very grateful. Much love & gratitude to @ejmccann.bsky.social, @murmz.bsky.social, & Drs. McAllister & Pratt for their generosity & ongoing mentorship, & to the library workers who agreed to be part of this project. May we continue to learn from your brilliant work! ❤️
The University Health Network and the Toronto Public Library have joined forces to install mobile health clinics outside libraries, where they will provide primary care.
SFU community members: please sign and share this petition demanding the university terminate its relationship with @hootsuite.com. The company's refusal to cut ties with ICE is abhorrent, and SFU needs to hear from us on this.

Generative AI is antithetical to the core values of librarianship and not grappling with that is a big issue, not just for librarians, but for anyone in the education field.
