We just did our annual rewatch of the TV special and it’s amazing to see a good bit of the dialogue taken directly from these strips.
In "Peanuts," Linus first mentioned the Great Pumpkin on October 26, 1959, creating what would go on to become an indelible cultural icon. Here’s that strip, followed by the rest of that week’s dailies:
Let's just hope this "Carrie 2" is better than "The Rage: Carrie 2."
Hey you konw what'd be cool? If in the next couple months I can get The Data Stream another 40 or 50 subscribers. (And if you want to be a paid one, even better.) Here are this week's on-air ratings, and a few more ideas on Netflix's whole deal.
We have a "Girls" revival and a "Glee" revival on the way. Just need one more for an Overly Discoursed 2010s show revival trend. I have one in mind, but I don't want to write it here and put that out into the world.
Very entertaining read here with Andy confirming how fucked this show is. True galaxy brain stuff to think that the infamously ethically suspect psych experiment could steered right with the addition of reality show production.
The New Stanford Prison Experiment wants us to take it seriously, but if AI reanimated Gene Wilder started talking to the cast over the jail's loudspeakers about Everlasting Gobstoppers, it'd be less silly than this show's concept and execution. #Netflix #StanfordPrisonExperiment
We call this Boguting.
Donald Trump was heading towards his helipad when he suddenly stopped to acknowledge a nonexistent crowd. trib.al/GSwMkKK
"American Horror Story 14" is coming. Side note: People have started calling seasons of anthology series "installments," and I've been badgered by PR people (though not in this case) to use that instead of "season." And that's a no from me.
Mike Lombardi, but for politics
The thing to understand about James Carville is that nearly 40 years ago he served as water boy for a star quarterback. Based on that job and that job only he has spent decades insisting he knows how to win Super Bowls. At best he knows how to fetch Bill Clinton’s water.

Hallmark's Countdown to Christmas movies start tonight, and on Saturday, the 3rd "Holiday Touchdown" movie premieres, this one set and filmed in Chicago. I visited the set and got some details on what it's like making a Hallmark holiday movie.
Couple things here: 1. Lyndsy Fonseca plays a freelance reporter. It's a (very) idealized version of the job, but no serious crimes against journalism are committed. 2. Chicago bona fides confirmed.

This is a little like a pairing from when were all hashtagging "TrueDetectiveseason2" in 2014, but it's real.

This week's Data Stream streaming ratings post is mostly about the No. 3 show, "East of Eden," because I'm disappointed in y'all for what the No. 1 show is. Read, subscribe, etc.
Now at The Data Stream: Weekly ratings for network and cable, plus a couple half-formed thoughts on the Netflix shakeup of the past couple days. Read, subscribe, tell others to do the same please and thank you.

Blake Griffin is gonna try doing "Last Week Tonight" but for sports with his new show "The Stepback." My colleague @zeitchik.bsky.social has a very good Q&A with him on the show, which premieres next week.

Forgot to share this last night amid my Brewer bandwagoning, but “The Lowdown” started season 2 in excellent form. Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones are great additions.

Listen to Brian! It's not a revelation that Betty Gilpin and Tommy Lee Jones are great, but they fit SO WELL into this world.
The Lowdown, my favorite show of 2025, returns for a second season tonight with two episodes i've seen a few screeners and, holy smokes, they are cooking once again this is the show i always recommend when people ask me what to watch

I am entirely serious when I say that this should be seen as a moderate position. It specifically and surgically dismantles institutions that did not exist pre-9/11 and assigns their functions much as they were assigned pre-9/11.
Rep. Delia C. Ramirez has introduced a bill that would abolish not just ICE, but the DHS altogether, repealing the 2002 law establishing the agency and replacing it with one focused on protecting civil and human rights.

Capital-D Discourse incoming: "Girls" is getting a short, 5-episode revival at HBO in 2027, with the primary cast (minus Adam Driver) returning.
Ryan Coogler's "X-Files" is officially happening. Hulu just announced a series order for the show, starring Danielle Deadwyler & Himesh Patel.
