A Bull Durham game, where one team has to find a catcher who can read

if we are going to do a whole Field of Dreams game in a cornfield we should also have a Sandlot game where a big dog runs around and chases the players

hey remember beast wars in the 90s when transformers were animals. did you know that it sparked a vicious civil war in the transformers fandom because people were mad that the transformers were monkeys instead of trucks

I have made referring to Reacher as "the big fella" in a Bill Raftery voice a part of my process, and the early results are promising. Which is to say that I don't think my wife loves it.

Reid Detmers' comments here say a lot. this is setting up your players for a competitive disadvantage.

Mike Maddux and his staff weren't using the available tech as much as they should, John Mozeliak said. Updated with comments from Mozeliak, Reid Detmers. www.ocregister.com/2026/08/11/a...

the Angels, as an org, are in a funny spot where even when they actually do the correct thing (hire new president, fire GM, order complete audit of org, fire coaches from old regime), they're still gonna eat shit for it. it's their own doing, but still funny.

Something I've noticed among my friends as I've gotten older is how many of them spin out when the issue isn't politics, it's that they hate their boss, or their job, or they're going through a hard time as a parent, and turn that into their politics. I don't really know what to do about that.

Angels have fired pitching coach Mike Maddux, assistant pitching coach Darryl Scott, and bullpen coach Dom Chiti, per @JeffPassan Angels ranked 24th in ERA (4.53) with the most walks in baseball this season (508)

Kurt Suzuki is one of the most in-over-his-head managers i’ve ever seen, but if these changes mean the Angels will try some new stuff for the last couple months of the season, whatever i guess

tired: the 4th out rule is stupid wired: the 4th out rule is hilarious inspired: Sportsnet using Angine de Poitrine as bumper music??

The Red Sox runners thought there was two out and ran on a pop fly. Naturally, this ended in a double play.

1. Buy a pack of gummy bears 2. Do not open 3. Forget about them and leave them in your car for days during 95°F weather 4. Discover pack of gummies has melted (and cooled) into one giant, multicolored gummy 5. Enjoy Gummy Pangea

i still think the likelihood of Trout ever leaving is very low, but it probably increases *slightly* this offseason. i’m sure he’ll sit down with Mozeliak/the new GM and talk realistically about the competitive window.

Mike Petriello@mikepetriello.bsky.social

I still don't think it'll happen, but: if the Angels really do tear it down finally, and given they've already moved Soriano / Adell / O'Hoppe and may yet move Detmers / Neto .. is this what finally changes Trout's mind?

trade deadline is the only day of the season you need to remember the los angeles angels are a real baseball team that somehow plays 162 games a season just like everyone else

I guess my thing with the Dodgers is that I *like* villains and don't think we should break the last serious pro sports union because one team that has real structural advantages is also smarter and trying harder than their peers. I don't like that Bob Nutting is terrible at this! That's my prob!

the thing that pisses me off the most about all this, sincerely, is that it’s ushered in a huge wave of anti-labor sentiment among normies

Alex Kirshner@alexkirshner.com

You do not get to do the whole "baseball is ruined" thing because the Dodgers gave up two serious prospects, one of whom is 100 years old, for a two-month rental. On this particular thing, your team literally could have done it if they wanted

I feel like the issue with the Dodgers getting Skubal has less to do with a need for a salary cap or anything else and more to do with it being boring. Everyone knew that’s where he’d end up. Sports are more fun when there are surprises. This is just uninspired script writing.

wait guys i figured it out: the Brewers were saving all their good prospects for Reid Detmers

ric sanchez@ricsanchez.bsky.social

i know it’s not, but this feels like a shockingly light package, even for a rental

The Los Angeles Dodgers are acquiring Tarik Skubal for outfielder Zyhir Hope, right-hander River Ryan and right-hander Brady Smith, sources tell ESPN.

everyone’s doing their “WELP enjoy your final MLB season folks” jokes, but this is prospects! and not even that many! i’m shocked no other team beat this… ?
