Happy New Year! It's time for a new manga thread! Same rules as the past three years: one post per volume, and I'll note if it's licensed in English or not. If it's licensed, that's the version I read. Last year's thread reached 512 posts. What will 2026 bring?

I love to be a pumpkin headed Irish piece of shit from the Inbred Cape Cod Family That Loves to Die and a junkie and a drunk and sound like that and hold the Josef Mengele Distinguished Professorship at The Island of Dr. Moreau University.

kind of crazy to me that my parents escaped vietnam during a war and arrived in north america, where they labored as a janitor and secretary so they could save enough money to send me to college, where i received a higher education, and now this is what i use my brain for

I think the lesson from Lula is not never talk about the opposition; it's articulate a positive vision that's basically, We Can Just Do Things. That's why Mamdani-ism is so popular - voters have an intrinsic sense that their electeds have agency they're not using

if you want to follow ANYTHING from what elected Lula here in brazil, this is the most important lesson and change of mindset that happened here just don't give them the attention they want. let them speak amongst themselves and let us win by silencing them with our voices

The online part was important too, of course. We collectively decided to not interact with any right wing post or comment ever. Trolls and bots lost their power. This is a good lesson.

Not only an incredible talent, but a rare talent who also thought it was funny to just voice random memes every once in a while

Unbelievable loss. An amazing talent, and just a really, really good person. www.instagram.com/p/De8RFy4pyov/

This isn't the first time they've advertised for something gross. Either they're too broke to turn advertisers down, or their publisher is a tactless bro with low standards.

Lula winning is great for the planet, great for Brazil, and great for people who aren't revanchist assholes everywhere in the world, but let's not forget that it's also going to make some of the worst people on Earth extremely sad and mad. We should enjoy that, as a little treat.

Nothing got broken, and no one was hurt, but everything on the entertainment cabinet is hidden from us. Should be a fun week of looking for remotes.

I can't believe we're going to spend one of our set number of Sundays in our limited lives talking about the Cheesecake Factory.

The city uses a third-party ticketing system for managing citizen complaints, and it posts everything online. If you're a nosy Nellie like me, it's a fascinating read.

I love the guy who lives on the town line who rails about his "slob" neighbors' trash cans every week. And I'm amused by everyone deciding to report cars as "abandoned" when they are parked near their driveway. It's the one weird trick of citizen complaints.

Please, romance writers, you have to let the conflict you introduced actually hurt your characters or it just feels cheap. They have to suffer as they struggle to overcome it. That's what shows me that their HEA has passed QA and they're ready to work out future issues.

If buying my first new sofa at a furniture store made me feel like a real adult, getting put on blood pressure medication makes me feel like a real middle-aged person.

this is me again saying dems need to stop campaigning on policy and go full vibe/meme based because that's how you get this cohort and there's a lot of them

New: Low-info voters, who put Trump in the White House, now look even more anti-Trump than high-info voters, and give Dems bigger margins on the generic ballot. 1 out of 3 Trump voters who can't name the party in charge of Congress now back Dems for 2026. www.gelliottmorris.com/p/poll-low-i...

Published authors: when you're preparing your will (you should have a will), keep your literary estate in mind. And keep in mind that everyone else is going to die too, so maybe don't leave the rights to someone your own age, or remind them to similarly make preparations. I promise, this comes up!

I'm reading this new BL on Lezhin with a tennis player main character, and I know I'm not a tennis expert, but it's weird to see him and his coaches treating the Olympics as the main event to orient your career toward.

Every year I drive through Salem in October to get to something mundane, and every year I look at the crowds of people and think it's just so fucking weird that a bunch of people got murdered by the state and it's become a Halloween party.

It's hardly the only holiday or event that's ghoulish if you think about it too hard, but living near Salem has left me a lot of time to think about this one.

Imagine dying in a filthy jail or getting hanged over some bored child calling you a witch, then having people getting day drunk in pointy hats to celebrate it.

So, usually when a white woman talks about going to Africa for a trip, she's talking about one country, and she went with a tour. When my sister-in-law talks about going to Africa, she's talking about visiting as many countries as she could in two months like there's an achievement for it.

She has lots of fun stories and ate lots of good food, but my favorite story was how her husband finally was like, "You know, I'm not having fun traveling so quickly. I'm going to Europe." and just hung out in France. These people live lives I barely understand, lol

It's so annoying when Pantheon licenses manga. Like, what do you mean this single volume of manga is $15.99 in ebook? Are you high?
