WHW & ADT's Abortomat is upending how #abortion care has been thought of & is the result of decades of feminist organising & science-making. @luberropizzarossa.bsky.social & I write on Abortomat & "feminist abortion commons" for @kings-sga.bsky.social: kingsglobalaffairs.substack.com/p/polands-ab...
evergreen sentiment, i think.
I do think it’s really weird (colonial? morally repugnant?) that scholars whose research careers & books are on/about India, have nothing to say about the protests. Doesn’t matter how much you wrap your work in the language of in/justice, if you can’t engage when it’s spilling over it’s meaningless.

Higher education is in a once-in-a-lifetime crisis. The funding model is broken, jobs are being lost and courses are being cut. We’re fighting back and demanding the government properly funds our sector. Find out what’s happening and support the fight: educationitsours.org.uk
this is absolutely devastating. 90 programmes. NINETY. this is a gutting of social science, an attack on unionising and collective bargaining, and a colossal disaster that is *squarely* management's fault. solidarity with our edinburgh colleagues, and colleagues across the sector.
'The University and College Union (UCU)’s Edinburgh branch said staff had been called into “informal meetings at less than 24 hours' notice” and told not to bring union representatives.'
going on sabbatical? parental leave? gotten a promotion? a gentle reminder to update your @ucu.org.uk account to reflect any recent shifts!

🔴 The Peter Thiel-Linked Race Science Network that Penetrated Cambridge University and Targeted Jason Arday The academic's coordinated targeting by an explicitly anti-black race science network did not come out of nowhere, reports @nafeez.bsky.social

I don't think people understand the extent to which this has been a decade plus long billionaire funded campaign (obviously Thiel is involved). We've tried to ring the alarm about these eugenicists but it is too easy for them to get parroted by the mainstream media. bylinetimes.com/2026/08/18/t...

You know who wasn't hounded to suicide for dodgy academic research? ANDREW FUCKING WAKEFIELD.
Fucking Christ alive. This is fucking horrific. Like the dude was obviously a fabulist and probably a plagiarist but SO ARE ALL FUCKING ACADEMICS. He was also still a vulnerable, autistic Black man and the entire campaign against him was motivated by racism. All these things can be true.
Rishita "Department of Error" Nandagiri reposted
Yes they absolutely are. And the message this sends to other people of colour in academia is ‘we weaponised the press against him and we can do it against you’. There’s so much shame to go around here. But there’ll be fuck all contemplation or reflection from the press or Cambridge.
You know that Cofnas and his ilk are viewing this as a win

I hope every person who made the editorial decisions around this story has a long, hard look in the mirror, and then resigns.
Quite weird to hear BBC News describe Jason Arday as “the black professor accused of plagiarism”. Is every story about a white professor going to include the relevant adjective?

if you don't know what's happening in india right now, you really should. www.bbc.co.uk/news/live/c8... (it's far more complicated - and politically charged, and somehow funnier!- than this, but a decent enough primer).

The Battle of Algiers at 60 conference in Cambridge. CFP deadline 4 August 2026. This will be a great conference on an important anticolonial film. Gutted that France missed this train too. Why can’t French academia celebrate/remember their history?! Sigh! www.crassh.cam.ac.uk/events/51930/

“Demographic Anxieties” can now be preordered (pub date June 30)! It shows how the Israeli settler-colonial state and its borders shape Palestinian women’s reproductive freedom, but it is also an ethnography working through what it means to research Palestine as 1/2 www.ucpress.edu/books/demogr...
