Rob Palk

Great news for the many fans of author, Rob Palk

Came with @robpalk.bsky.social to watch him sign his long-awaited, quietly devastating first novel re-issue at Toppings and they’d already sold half of them. Sorry to the keenos

Louder, to devastate the people at the back

saying the quietly devastating part out loud

Me and the regular group who like my posts.

Still prefer the original version (John Fowles, Rob Badgers, same diff)

Would you like to see the wrongest review of music reviews ever courtesy of Mark Frith in Smash Hits?

An ad that assumes its target audience will be so familiar with Thomas Gray's 'Ode on a Distant Prospect of Eton College' (1747) that they'll get the tagline reference (it's to Gray's "where ignorance is bliss/Tis folly to be wise")

It must be galling to people working in sweets development that the pioneers of chocolate bars basically got it bang on with their first gos.

That doesn't sound like him

This was a fascinating nightmare of a book, disturbing and funny and, unexpectedly, a Peter Pan for the 21st century

I hope you're all carefully noting the differences between the Salt and Sandstone texts, perhaps preparing your own definitive hybrid version of Animal Lovers for use in the eventual OUP edition

Hopefully there won't be a schism, necessitating a split into r/saltpalk and r/sandpalk.

I imagine there'll be a lot of arguments about which version is superior on the subreddit, r/palk.

In the Beatles song "Birthday" Macca sings "You say it's your birthday/It's my birthday too yeah". You know who has the same birthday as Macca? Delia Smith. Therefore Birthday, if not the whole white album, is about Delia Smith

Most relatable book I've ever read. But even if you've not gone through a marriage like a SpaceX rocket or a neurological diagnosis, the story pulls you in with characters that jump off the page and quite a lot of hilarity to sweeten the melancholy. Read in public, [preferred gender] will fancy you

I'm going to wait and see Emily Wilson's take

Imagine if the Ali G film is a poignant exploration of memory and loss

You know when you see a Laurel & Hardy or Marx Bros film from the 1940s or later and suddenly they look wrong, the prancing arthritic, the make-up collecting in crows feet, the energy departed?

This is a very funny and often poignant book, with the tough stuff worn lightly. One of the Accrington Literary Mafia strikes again!

A very funny book about relationships ending, the way illness changes our lives, and gassing badgers

very good book this
