Bolsonaro-friendly mayors appear to be sabotaging public transport on Election Day. Buses aren’t running in Lula-friendly areas, flights and ferries mysteriously canceled. Traffic lights have gone out and people’s power cut in Salvador, indigenous people’s travel restricted

Wow — listen to these new comments from Trump. Thanking Putin, trashing Zelenskyy, characterizing Russia as eager for peace and Ukraine as intransigent. The mask is totally off.

When Anthropic's software—designed, programmed, prompted, and activated by humans working for Anthropic—does stuff the humans failed to predict, stop saying the software has "gone rogue.” The software does not have agency. Only the humans do.

I remind you that half of your political/media class frantically urged you to vote for this pig-ignorant, disastrously incompetent crook, and the other half frantically urged you not to vote for the only viable opposition, and then put two and two together about why they did that.

This German comedy sketch (with English subtitles) perfectly captures so much of what is going on right now in the UK, the US, and across Europe. "Playing the 'Nazi Card' in the Third Reich", by Browser Ballett.

“We [the Irish] don’t do suave as a personality trait. Pierce Brosnan was a one-off, and no one really knows how it happened. And it seems to have come at the cost of his ability to sing.” Look, I said a mildly witty thing at dinner yesterday, and I want to extend its half-life. Just work with me.

Just watched #Superman (1979). Arch-villain Lex Luthor is depicted as a New York real estate hustler with a bouffant hairdo (ok wig) and a penchant for naming things after himself. Hmm

From 2015 "Donald Trump is much more like the Gene Hackman iteration of Lex: not a cold, calculating tycoon, but a giddily insane man-child whose ego and grandiosity may seem wacky and entertaining at first, but whose moral depravity and potential for sheer mayhem make him a true danger to us all."

So frustrating to read a non-fiction book without an index. I've noticed journalists are particularly prone to this sin of omission. I'm sure even periodicals used to regularly publish an index to their issues from the past year or so

Not to be some wild-eyed innocent, but I think it should be slightly bigger news that The Lancet have crunched the numbers and found that Musk's USAID cuts will kill 14 million people. And that's just by 2030. That's 9,600 people a day, every day, until the next world cup rolls around.

Really? Is that it? If this is all that’s come from COBR, it’s pitifully inadequate. As crisis deepens, it beggars belief that there aren’t eg plans to increase resources for the fire service, support for farmers, max workplace temperature, funded community cool spaces & obvs ban on new fossil fuels
